"Its renovated. Nice place to stay for relaxing vacation."

We stay at the hotel because I won a two-day half-board accommodation in a competition. When I read the negative comments at Trip advisor I was shocked.
But when i stay at Porto Hydra i noticed that things have changed since the hotel is renovated. As I learned a Greek shipowner bought recently the Hotel .
    My impressions are good.
First the positive: (+) to the room we stayed (404) had sea view. It was clean and get cleaned daily. We have a new TV LCD 32``, new freshman kettle and hair dryer, and mini fridge.
The (American and European) breakfast had wide variety of choices. The service was flawless .We were able to eat by the large pool. Dinner was also good. He had a wide variety of main dishes (beef, fish, pork, chicken, burgers, squid), many accompanying (pasta, rice, aubergines, courgettes, etc), great variety of salads, fruits and sweets. Even something that I liked is that all dishes were covered for reasons of hygiene. The most important thing is- in my opinion-that the location as ideal. Essentially has its own beach with free sunbeds and umbrellas for hotel guests. Has a small shop on site.

The few negative (-): The hotel is old and definitely needs more renovation (already done).
The nearest village is in a few kilometers distance.

"Not a bad hotel ,great scenery"

The hotel is in an ideal place. The Porto Hydra village which is located next to the hotel and is actually an extention of the hotel is absolutely fantastic. The beach which is in front of the hotel is very nice also. The pool in the center is very big and nice .The food they serve is nothing very special but you do have quite a variety of things to eat.Breakfast is standard. The rooms are large very average but kept clean .They also have a nice Italian restaurant on the beach which is very good.Their is a small mini market on the ground floor which is very handy. The beds matress is the hotels main problem. They are very uncomfortable. The Hotel is quite old(e.g their is one small elevator that get you to the topfloors). finally overall if your looking for a place to relax without much other expectations then this is the hotel for you.

    "Needs major TLC!"

Stayed at the Porto Hydra for 5 days with my friend on a trip around Greece. From the outside, it doesn`t look too bad. Reception area is nice and the pool is huge, deep, and very clean! The beach is nice and has chairs and umbrellas for you to use. The hallways in the hotel smell so bad and they are really dark and dingy. They give you this huge key to lug around and the locks are kind of hard to work. The first room we had had issues (the shower water bubbled up out of the drain in the bathroom floor and left 3 ft of water) so they switched us. Room had 3 twin beds, a table and chairs, an ancient kitchen (with no microwave), and a patio. The mattresses were rock hard like others mentioned. My bones would ache when i woke up. The door to the patio had no screen door. So it had to stay open all night which left in mosquitos which buzzed in our ears all night and bite us. There were not a lot of people staying at the hotel and there wasn`t a lot of excitement like the website showed. It was very quiet, which some enjoy. Had breakfast at the hotel one day. We asked just for coffee and the waiter brought us a variety of croissants, pastries, breads, etc. The check came and it was 30 euros! We didnt even eat the other stuff. That may have just been because of the language barrier....but guests beware! The new owner seemed to be renovating the place a little bit before we left. We got a flat screen tv in our room and they were painting downstairs. You WILL NEED a rental car here!!!! You cannot walk anywhere from the hotel, taxis are hard to find, and no buses. We took ours all over the place. Ermioni is a sweet little town and met some great people. Porto Heli is also nice and worth the drive. If you make a right out of the hotel and drive about a mile, on your right is a road which takes you to the water taxi. This taxi will take you to Hydra for the day for only about 7 euros. WONDERFUL! Go all day, Hydra is fantastic! I don`t think i would stay at the Porto Hydra again after my experience but I would visit the area again.

"Such a bloody experience never again!!"

The hotel and its premises are very old and need a renovation. On the other side, the view and the nature are gorgeous.
I tried one month to made the reservation as the reception there don`t know anything about tourism and their job at all!!After a month i booked via an agent. The reason i had to go to this hotel, was that my son had a soccer tournament there.
When we arrived(10couples)-i write this review on behalf ofall-the reception was very rude with a bad attitude and i heard them laughing at the phone and clients.
Prices of soft drinks are very expensive and you must wait a lot to get your drink,as waiters there are not professionals and definitely don`t know their job. Many of them were very polite but we also met very rude too.
The rooms are very old and smell awful, the bath you can`t believe how the water pipes smell, and i couldn`t sleep cause the matress was like a stone!!i saw that the cleaners don`t sterilize the bath and they don`t clean by a vacuum...so it`s always dirty all the hotel, and rooms too.
The last thing and most important, the food was awful,we prepaid for 4 days, and i got a gastroenteritis last day and got sick with fever.the chicken was in its blood raw,and i saw many insects and butterflies stucked even INSIDE the cakes and biscuits, meal which was made special for the kids!!
thanks God my kid returned healthy, but 3 of us with gastroenteritis, and we definitely threw our money!!never again in this hotel!!!
forgot to say there is no room service!!
pets are not alowed but i saw three dogs there...
