    "Fantastic family holiday "

    Rate:  5 Stars

What is bad about this resort? Ok, it is dated. There is no getting away from that. All that means is the buildings look a little tired and outdated. The charter flights that MW use leave a little to be desired. The plane was very old and tired. The crew on the outbound flight were pretty sullen and disinterested, even rude at times. By contrast, the same crew on the return flight were quite hospitable. Perhaps it was the early start on the outbound! That`s about all I have to say that is negative.
So, what is good about this resort? Ah, so much! I have to start with the staff. Absolutely amazing! The childcare was of a very high standard. Our chaildren are 8 and 5. We gave them the option of kids club or parents each day. They did a bit of both. When they went to kids club they appeared to have a wonderful time with a wide variety of activities and the staff looking after them were very attentive. The watersports team were absolutely outstanding. From my early starts wakeboarding to sailing in the afternoon plus sailing courses for both of our children I could not fault them. They were very well staffed and very helpful. They also made the environment very safe for our children when sailing. We literally did not need to lift a finger, the boat was rigged and launched, landed and beached by an energetic team, it was just a case of turn up, pick a boat and sail. The instructor who ran the stage 3 RYA junior course did an amazing job. Around the pool the lifeguards were friendly and attentive adn seemed to keep a keen eye on any issues in the pool. My son went for tennis coaching and we found one particular coach to be extremely good at keeping his attention and getting the best from him. The staff in the restaurant worked tirelessly through the day catering for large sittings in a freindly and efficient manner. I would expect waiters and waitresses of top class London restaurants to crumble under such pressure! Reception and bar staff were faultless and the staff in the little shop in the lobby (which appeared to be independent of MW) were also very helpful. My wife and I ate in the Trattoria one night and the waitress we had was very professional and courteous. The cleaners did an excellent job with our room each day and where always very friendly. Finally, the manager, George, appeared to do an incredible job running what is quite a large resort. He was always around, always busy, and prepared to deal with any issue or request. Having read some of the reviews which mentioned disinterested and grumpy staff I had fairly low expectations. Our experience was most definitely contrary to these reviews. My overall opinion was the resort was incredibly well staffed in all areas and the service was impecable. It is not a 5* resort but the service was better than I have experienced from many so called 5* resorts on other vacations.
Moving on to our room. We had a two bedroom `suite` in the main complex. It worked perfectly for our family and was a decent size. The room was basic but clean and comfortable with plenty of wardrobe space for our clothes. There was a good sized balcony for us to dry our swimsuits/towels etc. The air conditioning was very effective (other guests mentioned the aircon in the chalets was not quite as good. The apartment block itself was always kept clean and tidy and the maids did an excellent job of keeping our rooms clean and tidy which was no mean feat with two very untidy kids in tow.
I had also read negative comments about the watersports equipment. Again I would beg to differ. A choice of cats, picos, lasers, radial lasers, bahias, fun boats, opis, kayaks, windsurfers of all shapes and sizes (I am no expert!) and every imaginable water ski, mono ski and wakeboard. All in very good condition. We were very impressed. On almost all occasions we could turn up and take out what we wanted without having to wait around.
Whilst only my son used the tennis facilities they appeared to be of a very high standard from what I could tell.
One adult pool and one family pool. Both a good size, clean, plenty of sun beds/shade, good temperature. Probably the highlight for our kids. Sure, read reviews of the pools discolouring swimsuits, it does happen. That`s just a fact of life mixing chlorine pools with a lot of sun lotion.
My sife tried the spa a couple of times and was very happy with the treatments she received.
The main lobby was spacious with sofas and a big television where we were able to enjoy the tennis finals.
A couple of bars which were perfectly pleasant. It took a while to get served sometimes but with a cocktail menu drinks preparation is mainly to blame and that is the same anywhere.
So, on to the food. We stayed at a MW hotel about 7 years ago and one of my gripes was the quality of food. Not so at this resort. We were trying to eat pretty healthy and so the food selection suited us prefectly. There was plenty of choice for breakfast from healthy to fry up. The ability of the hot counter chef to curn out good omlettes, poached eggs and just about anything else requested as such a high speed was astonishing! We upgraded to full board and I am glad that we did so as the lunch in the main restaurant also boasted am impressive array of food. The variety of salad options was excellent and I don`t think I have ever enjoyed eating so much rabbit food in all my life. Dinner was of an equally good standard and there was always something all of our family with different tastes could enjoy. I might expect that if you didn`t like salad you might find the hot options a little repetative but this didn`t greatly concern us. Don`t get me wrong, it is still a buffet, this is not fine dining, but I have to say it was a buffet of a high standard. The wine at dinner I felt was also reasonably priced. Consider this with the backdrop of very large volumes of diners eating at around the same time, the buffet was always well stocked, service at the tables was efficient and tables always cleared. We were very impressed. As I mentioned we ate at the trattoria once. Sure, it`s no Michellin star restaurant but we found the food to be very good and we enjoyed every dish. The service could not be faulted. It was our anniversary and they made it a very special occasion for us.
The childcare facilities also appeared very good with a ready supply of arts, crafts and creative ideas from the staff.
The transfer was great for a young family. Just 15 minutes to/from the airport ... great!
In terms of value for money, if I had paid the full brochure price for the holiday I think I would have felt it expensive. As it was we enjoyed a heavily discounted price as a late booking and I found it to be outstanding value for money. The full board upgrade was worth it. The drinks at the bar were a little expensive. Courses, tuition, spa, coaching all seemed very reasonable to me.
All in all we were delighted with our holiday and could not recommend this resort enough. We will definitely use MW again and try to get back to San Agostino if it remains a MW resort. Thank you MW, a great holiday :)

Room tip: The main building worked very well for us.

Outstanding resort for all ages. Beautiful location, activities to suit all ages and amazing child care. The staff were happy, caring and very friendly to everyone. Enjoyed the food and staying in the bungalows. The children`s pool was big and child friendly my 7 yr old could stand up in the deep area so felt happy to let him swim around. The lifeguards were very attentive and managed the children really well. The waterfront activities were very popular with my family especially the sailing. This is the most relaxing holiday I have ever had as it met the needs of the whole family perfectly. Well done George and the Mark Warner staff. Please make sure San Agostino is a Mark Warner resort in the future would love to return.

    "San Agostino Mark Warner Greece"

    Rate:  4 Stars

Just returned from a fabulous week in San Agostino with Mark Warner. With 3 teenagers in toe, it was fabulous to see them enjoying themselves whilst I ran each morning, exercised and relaxed in the sun during the afternoon. This was our third visit to San Agostino and much had improved from the previous visits. The rooms seemed fresher, the hotel staff more intuned with your needs and the food was so much better than previous years. For me, there was a great improvement in the exercise options offered, their gym instructor was fabulous offering interesting options such as yoga and meditation. A very lovely setting, with comfortable rooms and a nice atmosphere. I would totally recommend this holiday. There was a rumour that Mark Warner are not returning next year, which for me would be a great shame as I feel it is a great mixture of teenage freedom in a very managed environment. As always the Mark Warner staff were fabulous, but that does go without saying. My only two areas for improvement were I do feel one or two of the bar staff could smile a little more often and please please open that lovely Greek\Arabic restauarant at the end of the beach, I missed that so much.

Room tip: I think it is worth the extra money to have a Premium room which is in the main hotel.

"2 weeks of fun for us "

    Rate:  4 Stars

I am glad to read that this years reviews are much better than those of last year on trip advisor. We spent the first 2 weeks of June in San Agostino. This is our 3rd MW holiday and we have previously been to the resorts at Lakatira and at The ocean club in Portugal. We went as group of 3 families, each with 2 kids. (all aged 3 and 4)

Childcare: Although always being excellent, this year it was truly fantastic. The staff were excellent with our kids and our girls were totally in love with all them. Being the start of the season, they definitely were still fresh and energetic. For the first time, the girls attended kids club every morning and every night, without complaint.

Staff in General: Our friends did watersports and therefore Moley had dinner withus a few times. He also taught our girls how to windsurf, which was amazing. A special thank you to the Manager, George. He helped us with our change of rooms, he got us more wine when we ran out of the brand we were drinking and he made a special effort to talk to all guests and make them feel welcome. (he even made an effort to keep us up to date on the rugby scores) Our friends had a mix up with their accommodation and he went above the call of duty to put the smiles back on their faces.
Even the restaurant staff were great, a special mention to Helen and Tom!

Restaurant: We definitely had the best food at this resort. The food was hotter and fresher and there was more variety than at Lakatira. However, the kids food was terrible. I have no idea why the kids could not eat the type of dishes that the adults received, at their dinner time. Instead, they were given inedible chicken nuggets and chips etc etc. We did complain and ask for more vegetables and the chefs told us just to ask for whatever we wanted and they would make it for us. A few time we asked for extra vegetables and received them within minutes. The real downfall, is the wine list. Wines range from 13-28 euros. Being there for 2 weeks meant that we did not want to drink the 28 euro bottles every night, especially since we were ordering 3 at a time. The mid range wines are just about drinkable. Also, the cocktails are very disappointing. You have to get the right bar staff member who knows how to mix cocktails from scratch. Otherwise, everything comes in pre-mixed bottles and so you get Mojito`s without mint...

Rooms: This is the hottest topic for san Ag. Yes, they are in desperate need of repair, however we hardly used our rooms. We had 2 interconnecting bungalows near the kids club. This is prime location if you have kids between 0 and 5. Carrying the kids back from kids club at 11.30pm is quite hard, but if you book the bungalows in the 800 range, you are only steps away. A real blessing. Plus, there is a great grass area outside these bungalows that we used every day, especially since there were 6 kids playing together. The bathrooms spray water everywhere and will flood every time you use them due to narrow and old pipes we were told. However, its not a big deal. For us, close proximity and accessibility to the beach, kids club and restaurant out weighed the bad state of the rooms. The Hotel does look run down, so I would suggest paying the extra for the bungalows. We went for the kids club and the weather and both were perfect!

The pool: After 2 weeks we noticed the whites of our costumes going a bit yellow. However, if you rinse your costumes after swimming, you will avoid this issue. Out of 2 daughters, only 1 costume went yellow after 2 weeks.

Sports and Entertainment: The resort is not close to any towns and therefore they provide a lot of in house entertainment. Every hour there is a sporting activity and every evening there is some form of entertainment for the adults and staff. Activities included, ping pong competitions, beach volleyball, quizes etc etc Our group, fully utilised the night time activities and we were having such fun that we battled to fetch our kids on time at 11.30pm. A special mention to Sean, our tennis coach. It was our second time meeting him and we enjoyed playing lots of tennis on holiday.

    Top Tips
There is a shop on the premises and they sell everything. Helen, who runs the counter is fabulous and so is the owner. We stupidly left our SD card for our camera at home and they got us one within a few hours at a very good price. We bought lots of soft drinks and other sundries at the shop and felt that the staff were extremely obliging.

You can invite staff to dine with you at night in the restaurant. Only managers get to dine in the main restaurant and it is a treat for them to go. Do not tip them bottles of wine, as they get their alcohol at half price, so rather give them the money...they deserve it!

Our group continuously discussed the pros and cons of the different MW resorts and we decided that we would definitely go back to San Ag. For our age group, 32-60, we love everything that San Ag had to offer.

Room tip: If you have kids in kids club, the rooms in the 800 region are the closest. They also open onto the...

San Agostino has an extensive, quiet sandy beach perfect for children(stones at shoreline) with plenty of sun loungers and sunshades waiting to be yours for the day. Lots of sailing kit, windsurf rigs etc and an alert team of helpful staff to rig, launch and return your kit when you are finished. Waterskiing is popular in the mornings when water flat and a dedicated team of staff do a lot to help the children and nervous skiers get up on the bar so they can quickly progress to the rope. 2 lovely pools, a kids` one and a glorious adult -only pool with loungers around the edge, never had a problem getting one, great for when the kids are in kids club!! 2 bars, one a beach bar with a wonderful view over the sea and saling area, the other closer to the restaurant. The bungalows are basic but good air con, spacious, immaculately clean, fresh towels daily, opening onto grassy tree shaded areas and extending down to the sea. Food plentiful and varied, very sociable environment. Staff so cheerful and helpful and work very hard. Perfect holiday.

Room tip: If you have children, choose a bungalow close to the childrens` pool.

    "Wonderful holiday, fabulous staff "

    Rate:  5 Stars

We have just returned from a wonderful two week holiday at San Agostino. Firstly the flights were good, an hour delay outbound and on time in bound - the airline was Travel Services, which were foreign staff but pleasant staff on a new aircraft both ways. We stayed in the beach bungalows which were perfect - ok they were basic but immaculately clean and there was always hot water and fresh towels daily. The waterfront was efficiently run and there was an abundance of staff to assist you both launching the boats and on the water too. We water-skied each morning on lovely flat water with enthusiastic staff and great tuition. The daily activities were written up on blackboards and always happened on time - we particularly enjoyed the water polo and volleyball. George the Manager is a prominent figure and always around making sure everyone is OK. The bar staff are generally efficient and friendly and the food is varied and service in the restaurant good. The buffet is replenished constantly and you can dine in the Trattoria which is waiter service at only a small supplement. All staff cannot do enough to help and are always on hand - they are a credit to Mark Warner.

    "Great holiday "

    Rate:  5 Stars

The previous review sums up this Mark Warner location exactly....it`s is a large resort but it caters for everyone, lots to do if you want to but you can relax and do nothing if that is what you want to do....we went as a couple in school holidays but the large children`s pool meant that the adult pool was quieter and in the morning was virtually empty.

Accommodation...it is basic but comfortable, and at the end of the day you spend a small amount of time there. Good showers, large double bed and efficientl air con ( we had a bungalow)

Of course the staff make or break the holiday and Mark Warner staff work really hard to make your stay enjoyable. The waterfront staff are excellent, they are out there from 0715 setting up everything and don`t normally finish until 1930....during the day whatever boat/kit you want is rigged and ready for you and when you finish you step off and it is all put away. Yes some kit is older and some stuff does break but that is sailing and perhaps some who don`t sail a lot don`t realise this...all the staff deserve a lot of credit for what they do.

Nice winds and waves for afternoon sailing with lighter winds for the morning.

Food...lots of it and excellent. We ate at the trattoria upstairs (15 euro supplement per head)....huge portions, excellent food and a nice view with a cooling breeze `on the roof`. We were half board but a baguette from the bar (one was enough for two of us) is only 3 euros.

Seems like Mark Warner may close this venue in the near future (possibly due to circumstances beyond their control ).....that would be a mistake, it is a great place to go and relax or take part in the many activities if that is what you want to do, all supported by excellent staff.

    "Great family holiday"

    Rate:  5 Stars

This was our second trip to San Ag with three kids aged 15, 13 and 10. The key to a great family holiday is happy kids and ours were certainly very happy and occupied for our 2 week stay. Hanging out with kids their own age and not with boring mum and dad is what they want to do. Their group leaders were lovely and fun and for me surely one of the best things about this holiday was hearing screams of laughter and singing as they messed about on the picos, diving into the water and capsizing each other - this is what summer holidays in the sun should be about.
Buffet was very good, it`s not fine dining but there`s plenty of variety and the kids being able to see what they`re going to eat means they try things that they wouldn`t if they were choosing off a menu. Full board is definitely worth it.
The beach is lovely, plenty of space. Having kids and adults pools is a great idea. Sometimes difficult to get a lounger round the pool but no big deal as there were always plenty on the beach.
The staff are very friendly, nothing is a bother and George does a wonderful job of holding everything together. We stayed in the bungalows which are a little dated but then we were hardly in them and the key things were that the air conditioning worked, there was plenty of hot water, a good shower, loads of clean towels and the standard of cleaning from the friendly cleaning team was very high.
The only grumble (and it`s a minor one) would be the flights, the times of which were very anti social for the trip out but very good for the home journey - but overall an improvement on the truly dreadful and scary Tor Air. It would be excellent if they could manage BA flights as they do for other destinations.
San Agostino is a very special place. It is very relaxed and friendly and this is partly because it is not brand new and shiny but a well loved resort, a little worn round the edges, that people return to time and time again. It would be very sad to see San Agostino lost from Mark Warner`s portfolio, we have a great affection for it, as does everyone we have spoken to. I understand that renewing the contracts may not be a straightforward matter but we really hope that we`ll be able to make a return visit next year.

    "San Ag - amazing"

    Rate:  5 Stars

With bad uk weather and limited planning time I googled `activity holiday` and emailed MW. They replied within an hour and I bit the bullet. No regrets. It was my first MW holiday and I loved every second. The booking, flights and transfer were seamless and the room very clean. Food plentiful, varied and tasty. Staff were really friendly and I am gutted I didn`t know about the company to work there as a student. The activities were the winner for me...I learned to windsurf, sailed a catamaran, played tennis daily, kayaked, ran swam, did a fun tri, Pilates, yoga...you name it! The bars were reasonable and the resort self contained and friendly. I will be tracking the movements of the San Ag management team and rebooking again either at San Ag or wherever the team goes next. Fantastic resort led by an exceptional team. Thank you.
