"Charming City Hotel"

Rate:  4 Stars

Stayed at FAROS SULTANAHMET for the second time. The location is excellent in walking distance to the Grand Bazar, Sultanahmet Mosque and Topkapi Palace. Any other place in Istanbul can easily be accessed by tram (the stop is just a few steps from the hotel). The rooms are clean and spacious enough. Rooms on 4th floor have a balcony. Rooms to the street are a bit noisy, the more quiet rooms on the back side have no view.
The staff is very attentive and friendly. Breakfast is fine with a good variety, better then in some hotels of higher classes. As a guest in the hotel you get a 10% discount in the hotel´s restaurant where the food is excellent (international and turkish cuisine).
The internet connection is very fast,
The only point why I consider the hotel as "very good" and not "excellent": Selection of TV channels is poor, only 16 channels. Also the elevator is too slow.
I will for sure return and also recommend this hotel for anybody who want to be in central Istanbul.

"address confusion"

Rate:  3 Stars

The first thing to be aware of with Faros hotel in Istanbul are that there are 3 of them and a restaurant. This caused me all of the problems I had.

First of all after finding a hotel called `Faros hotel` on google maps, I booked it via Tripadvisor link as it was an ideal distance from the ICEC for my business trip. It turned out that I had booked the wrong hotel (Sultanahmet not Taksim). Note that the hotel in Sultanahmet on Trip Advisor is just called Faros Hotel Istanbul. I had no idea that there were more than one Faros Hotel , and did not recognise that the address was not where I wanted.

So I had a room booked in Faros hotel Sultanahmet, however the taxi driver from the airport took me (well dropped me 250m from the hotel and simply pointed in the right direction) to Faros Hotel Sirkeci (the 3rd Faros hotel that I only then became aware of) and I ended up walking with my luggage to Faros hotel Sultanahmet along the tram line, on my own, at 10pm.

I was able to be transferred to Faros Hotel Taksim (where I thought I was booking; the one ideal for ICEC) for my 3rd night as they had vacancies, however, despite the taxi driver receiving directions from the hotel receptionist, the taxi took me to Faros restaurant in Taksim and not the hotel. By the way, on google maps, that is where I had initially thought the hotel is. The taxi driver said that is where the receptionist told him it was . It then took 20mins to find the correct hotel, which is still not where it says it is on a zoomed in google maps.

I had to stay at Faros hotel Sultanahmet again on my 4th night , and the taxi driver, although again getting strict instructions from the hotel at my request, took me to Faros hotel Sirkeci, and would not believe me that I might be right in that it was the wrong hotel !

I just think that the hotels need to have 3 differect names. Certainly on trip advisor the name should be Faros Hotel Sultanahmet, and not just Faros Hotel Istanbul (implying that there is just one). The websites for each hotel are separate as well. Why not have 1 website, which clearly says that there are 3 hotels ? The hotel staff at Faros are very nice and helpful though. Breakfast is at 0730 and they prepared me a lovely breakfast plate each day as I needed to leave the hotel before that.

"Almost perfect"

Rate:  5 Stars

Loved the hotel and the staff. The room was very nice and the location was perfect. Within walking distance to all sites as well as easy access to all kinds of transportation. The breakfast was great. Only downside was the towels provided by hotel. The first day they were white, soft and high quality. After that they were dingy and ready for the rag pile. But if that is the only complaint, I will take it. Will stay here again and would highly recommend the Faros Hotel.

"Awesome Location, Great Value!"

Rate:  5 Stars

Preface: My family and I stayed at this hotel and were pleasantly surprised. Being from the hospitality industry ourselves, we were potentially a little more critical than the avg guest. This hotel was the nicest one on the strip, while being extremely close to several major touristic attractions. Breakfast was a healthy treat with several high fiber options mixing both Turkish and American items. Also, the staff was always extremely professional and helpful. The only shortcomings it had was the humble entrance, a slow elevator, and occasional noisiness from the street, which given the thick windows wasn`t bad at all.

"Absolutely superb and very professional"

Rate:  5 Stars

We would highly reccomend this wonderful hotel to anybody who is keen to stay in old part of the city. If any hotel can have such service as Faros! We stayed there for a week and were impressed with the service, staff, location and food. We have travelled a lot and have a good experience to compare one hotel to another. Faros, in many way, can get a high grade. When we arrived at the hotel we were greated by Camille who answered to all our questions and gave us useful clues about the city and places. Our luggage has been lost for three days and guys at reception helped a lot ringing to the airport and constantly making enquieries. Without them we might never find our bags. Food in the restaurant is excellent and great variety. Coming to Turkey for the first time we really felt like home. Thanks again to all those people who made our stay so comfortable and pleasant. We would definetely stay in this place again next time we are in Istanbul. Nina and Greg from New Zealand
