"Quiet september break"Rate:  4 Stars
My girlfriend & I have just returned from Gouves, Crete where we stayed at the Cosmi Apts. We had a nice time however, we don`t usually go for that kind of holiday. Gouves has some nice restaraunts, bars by the sea front to the right of the harbour as you are facing it. When you turn a corner to enter the "main drag" it becomes "brits abroad" Flashing lights, tacky shops, english pubs etc. That said, we never had a bad meal and if you are wanting a bit of night life but more family orientated (not for 18-30s) then Gouves will be a good choice. Our main 2 gripes with Gouves was the amount of litter everywhere. If they would put litter bins along the beaches maybe this would solve the problem. Also, The noise from regular aircraft coming into Heraklion.
Cosmi apts were well located, far enough away so you were not bothered by noise but not so far we couldn`t walk anywhere. There is a bus stop 5mins away on the main road, the nearest shop is about a 3-5min walk, bars restaraunts are about 10-15min walk away-not far. We like a bit of a walk at night so it didn`t bother us at all.
The rooms were lovely and clean when we arrived however, our room and a few others we had spoke to during our stay had only been cleaned once for the week. This sounds picky but when your bathroom starts smelling of [--] due to the toilet bin overflowing with used toiletroll and your towels are smelling a bit, it`s time for cleaning! I emptied the toilet bin myself on a couple of occasions, didn`t bother me too much but if the cleaner came round one more time in the week, I wouldn`t have had to do this. That is the only critisism i have really. Everything else made for a quiet relaxing holiday. The pool is usually empty so we had the pool to ourselves most days, There is a pool bar for those who want to stay and drink by the pool at night. We read some bad reports about Nikos, the guy that runs the hotel. He aint full of the joys of spring or anything but he is helpful and will fix anything that may be broken/not working. Our bathroom light wasn`t working, it was fixed within the hour.
All in all, a good relaxing holiday. I won`t go back to Gouves, done it, seen it, got T-shirt. Too much "Brits abroad" for us.

"Nice last minute break to Gouves"Rate:  4 Stars
My boyfriend and i stayed here last year at the end of August/beginning of September, it was a nice place to stay, the pool was a perfect sun trap and very clean. the area was nice it was a 5 minute walk to the nearest bars/tavernas, we often went to the Baraki bar, the staff/owners were very friendly. There is a lot of restaurants to choose from and i had no complaints about food at any of the places we ate out. i`d recommend doing some of the day trips offered or going to Heraklion for the day. The only only problem we had was the room only being cleaned once other than that it was a nice relaxing holiday all round. oh and the local aquarium is a fun experience.

"A really fantastic locally run place with the best pool!"Rate:  4 Stars
I`m sure this is the first time I`ve ever taken the time to write something like this, but after our recently holiday then I think Cosmi and Crete really do deserve some words.
First of all, yes this is not 5* all inclusive so if you want that then stop reading now, but if you go anywhere near Hersonissos and want to real get the feel of the place, have some fun and come back having had the best time....then I would really recommend staying here and doing a few things we did.
First of all, if you get there late, it`s dark etc, there will be a key in your door, and the family live in so you can always get help. Nikos, what can I say, he`s Greek, he`s really not crazy, just an amazing personality, it`s all Malakas, just go have that drink and relax, oh, definitely try the `Nikos` special cocktail. Diana, Niko`s partner and Costas his son help run the place, and between the three of them, they do a great job. Remember, compare price with what you get in 5* etc, then take that money and do so much more with it. The rooms are fine, very clean, have A/C and a safe, perfect fridge etc, really are fine - considering you are not living in the place, just sleeping there. You do have to pay for the safe and AC, but well worth it.
Cosmi really does have one of the best pools in the whole area, seriously, perfectly looked after, clean, one deep end, really perfect. The bar area is great throughout the day and night.
Tip tip tip - drink Mythos beer, it`s so cheap, and so refreshing, 2.50 to 3.50 Euros usually for a large cool beer!
For those going.....out the front entrance by the pool to the road, turn right and walk down 5 mins to the sea (you`ll pass a little taverna on the left which is nice for food or toasties), at the sea front turn right and you walk to the Island sea front restaurant (personally for me, forget the expensive steaks and have the spag bol, about 7 Euro and it`s lovely) and a few bars - nice there. If you turn left at the sea front, walk down 6 to 7 mins (or 20 secs on the quad) and you get to Gyros corner, turn left up there and walk about 150M and then you will come to main street where there are quite a few bars and places to eat, go stop at `Baraki` - 300M (approx) up on the right, it`s a good bar and the guy running the place looks like Jimmy Nail. If you didn`t turn up at Gyros and keep going, look out for Zorbas - the burgers are quite nice there.
Get a quad and find you way to Limin Hersonissos, on the beach front find a bar called Mylos, they have cocktails for 6 Euro each - try one as they are amazing - Long Island Ice Tea - wow.
Also, either by quad or bus, go to the Water City waterpark at Anopolis - it`s a great day if you love water and slides, wicked fun.
Quad again ideal but if not get the bus to Stalida, great place to spend the day with loads of great places to eat and nice beaches.
Also, from Cosmi, walk up to the main road (5 mins) to the top, cross over and get the bus to Agios Nikolaos, it`s soooo cool, the harbour etc, well it`s just so lovely, if you are a guy and want to impress the mrs, take her there. He`s the great bit, a bus from the top of the road will cost you a smidge over 10 Euros (total for both of you!), will take about an hour but really worth it. You can get bus back, but also try doing a deal with a taxi driver as they often have to end up at the airport, so pay about 30 Euro most for taking you home if you don`t want take the bus.
So Cosmi, it`s a perfect (16 rooms not 119 as TA displays) (we had room 32 which was great), the pool is fab, the drinks are great and Nikos is one fantastic Greek character, and yes we`ll be back there to see you Niko my friend.
OK so some other pointers and tips:
Get a quad bike for a few days, forget going on all the main roads, get off around the cost road and tracks, around farmers tracks etc, it`s brilliant, out of Cosmi, down to the sea, turn right, follow along the road until you have to go right, follow up just a short way until you see a little dirt track, take that and see where you get - we hardly touched a main road taking the quad all the way to Malia. At one point there is a all long bridge - on the quad go down and under along the dirt track and then left off into to the olive tree fields - amazing.
In old part of Hernonissios, Monday night, in the square they have music and dancing, it gets packed but it`s really worth going. We went ( and this shows how amazing the Greek people are) or rather we were taken by Niko and the family, in his Mercedes, he drove us! We ate at Mylos and you have to try the meat balls there - absolutely amazing.
From the airport, you can get the bus return shuttle which is fine but a bit slow - just take a taxi which is 10-15 mins and will cost about 10 Euro.
There are some cash points about by not many, closest is up main street by Gyros - and it works fine.
Stop at Gyros on Gyros corner, and yes, stop and have a Gyro, for about 3 Euro, wow wow wow.
So take it from us and we have done plenty of travelling, this really is a great holiday, stay at Cosmi and get to know Niko, the family and friends (and Uncle George), it`s not luxury but it`s fab, the pool is brill, get a quad, venture around and try loads of different places to eat.
This holiday was one of the best I can ever remember and what made it really special was getting to know the local folk who are just amazing people.
Room tip: Room 32 is you can get it, very nice. Also try to get an AC in the Kitchen and not bedroom as it`...

Been going back to see Niko and Co. every year since he opened. My advice is have a drink at the bar with him ASAP after arriving and forget all your problems. Relax, smile and have a ball. Chances are you`ll see us there again some time in 2012!
Room tip: Bigger the better.

"cosmi - a budget holiday!!!"Rate:  4 Stars
My wife and I had a great holiday here, made better by the friends we made around the pool !!!!!
If you are looking for a low cost holday to a lovely destination then this could be for you!!
Accomodation - basic, but all you would need, includind a kettle and a safe. You may find a few bulbs blown or things not working, but Nicos will generally sort it!! the cleaning and laundry was only done once during the week and we emptied our own bins on the way out!! The pool area is very good with a deep pool and plenty of loungers, the bar was only open irregular hours with a limited range and toasties as a snack but nice when it was open!!
Nico - A real character, some would say a bit over the top, but stand your ground and give as good as you get and he`s ok!!
Gouves - a lovely, mainly quiet destination with a good range of tavernas and bars, its bigger than you think, so spend a little time away from the seafront and explore a bit to find the better places! (we hired a quad to get round it all)
Overall - would we go back YES!!
and to the lovely people we met around the pool, thanks, we had a laugh!!!!!!!!!

i feel i must write an review about cosmi apts this is the 2nd yr we have stayed(we as in my hubby,15yr old son an myself)and we all have had a totally awesome time,on arriving this time(t-time locally)nikos was there waiting for us he gave all of us the biggest cuddle helped us with our cases even carried them up to our room,we had few drinks round pool then went nxt door to his brothers apts were we had stayed 3yrs ago got fantastic reception there as well. we stayed in room 24 from the tues till friday then nikos swapped us to the room we had requested room 26,pool view and also good spot for nikos to creep up from the roof to drown my hubby with icy cold water when he was chilling!!!we have always found nikos to be lovely, friendly and very hospitable even going to chemist for eyedrops for our son who got infection and he refused to take the money from us!! the rooms are clean and tidy, maid is lovely friendly these are self catering so there for the rubbish is your own responsibility, not that of nikos`s. we have met some wonderful families and couples on both occassions who we keep in regular contact and are hoping to re-meet with them next year( yeap you`ve guessed cosmi apts ) on 1occassion after having far to much to drink my hubby fell on to the toilet knocking the cistern off the wall,we shouted nikos up to our room and on showing him he just laughed and shook his head saying no worries no worries he did get his own back next day by putting lumps of ice down my husbands shorts while he was napping in fact the whole fortnight was one of school boy antics between the 2of them much to the amusement of other guests.

"Great Place to unwind"Rate:  5 Stars
Looking foir that simple, but friendly place to unwind in Crete? Well the Cosmi might just be the right place for you. Set only 200 meters from the local beaches, the rooms are clean and attractive, the pool is just great for families and adults, and spotlessly clean. There is a small poolside bar for drinks and snacks.
Owner Nicos goes out of his way to things go well, and will always help out if you need advice.

"Went with trepidation in 1993, been going there ever since."Rate:  5 Stars
We booked to go to Cosmi in May 1993. Our daughter sent us a print out of the reviews, we had no internet at the time, and we trembled !!! Nikos was portrayed as the proprietor from HELL!!! He wasn`t. We had a great time and have been going back since at every opportunity. We were made very welcome, none of the outbursts that we`d been warned of, no problems at all. I am now seventy years of age so can`t be considered a noisy young tearaway, my wife is a little younger, we start having fun on the day that we arrive and it lasts for the two weeks that we are there. When we have been unable to book at Cosmi (twice) we always have made a point of visiting Nikos to say hello, and he phones to wish us Happy Christmas each year. We do our best to go there twice a year, the best holidys we have ever had. We invariably meet the same people there time afterr time Christine & Trev Jago
