L`aria condizionata è a pagamento.

"Clean & friendly"

Rate:  4 Stars

We stayed here with our six year old twins following Tripadvisor recommendations. Lovely spacious apartment (ours even had a lovely tabby cat who joined us for meals) the views were distant but stunning. Pool and terrace were divine. Our room was at the top of the hill. Best view but a bit of a hike. The area is a typically built up tourist trap, looks like there may still be some more developments to come around the hotel.

Staff were friendly, curteous and accommadating at all times, lovely with the children.

Breakfast was fresh and lots of variety. Had a few evening meals the BBQ was good but I had pizza reminiscent of a frizbee, therefore choose wisely and eat when the food is being cooked from scratch.

The coastline in that area is overdeveloped, tragic really. But still plenty of lovely areas left to explore if you have a car and a good guide book.

"Laid back & relaxing"

Rate:  4 Stars

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Amazona and had the best time. At first glance you are not sure what to expect, but from the minute you meet the family that run the place you know that it`s going to be all good. It truly is a family affair and they are ALL very welcoming and very friendly. The rooms are basic and clean the bedding is changed regularly as are the towels. They all work incredibly hard and nothing is too much trouble. If a laid back holiday is what you are after then this is the place to come to, it is very quite (apart from the insomniac Cockeral that live up the hill some-where!!) and peaceful. The pool is great, we had it to ourselves most days and the beach is just a five minute walk away. George does a fantastic BBQ and throws in a bit of dancing as well. All in all a lovely place in a great location. We will definately be returning.

"Authentic Greek, brilliant location, friendly though fairly basic"

Rate:  4 Stars

The hosts were so helpful - we arrived to a national taxi strike so our pre booked taxi did not come. We got to the main road about 3 miles away by public bus and we were picked up by our hosts at no charge - what service! We were then shown to a large 2 bedroomed apartment with authentic Cretan built-in beds and a fireplace plus a very large terrace covered in vines and flowers. The kitchen had a large fridge/freezer which (unusually for some Greek accommodation) worked really well, a 2 ring cooker with a small oven, just enough cutlery and china, good quality pans and a kettle and filter coffee machine. The apratment was clean enough and what we would have expected but it wasn`t spotless, the towels were changed and the apartment cleaned on alternate days and the beds changed midweek. There was a TV (which we did not use) that had Greek channels and 2 in American with Greek subtitles). There was aircon which we needed because it was mid thirties in the shade and a safe - the 2 together cost us just short of 60 euros for the week. There are 2 a/c units which have to be paid for separately so we just had the one. The location was perfect - the gates to the complex are kept locked and you can get up to the cafe and a small supermarket in one direction or down to the village centre and beach in the other. The pool area was pleasant and there were always beds available when we were there. There is no children`s area and only a very small shallower end; I should also mention that the accommodation does have steps in every direction because it is on a hill. The village has at least 4 supermarkets plus a butcher`s shop and perhaps 2 dozen restaurants (reviewed separately but Bazaar needs a special mention) as well as various gift shops. The beach is predominantly sandy, wide but not especially deep and there are pebbles to walk over to enter the sea. It shelves gently and is sheltered with a watersports facility and a PADI school. It is 6 euros for a brolly and 2 beds. This is a super vacation location but still manages to retain its Greek character - don`t come here if what you want from a holiday is exactly what you have at home; there are AI accommodations but in our opinion you would lose out on the delights of the rustic accommodation that is for us an important part of the holiday. There is a public bus service from the village to Iraklion - I think it is 3 or 4 buses per day and to return there are about the same number, the afternoon ones being at 2.30 and 5.30; there are also excursions which are not bad value - there are 3 places to book these and they are not always consistent in the info they give so double check! Probably the best way to get around is to hire a car but the roads are not for the faint - hearted; they are full of hairpin bends and the locals drive up the middle of the road! All in all a brilliant place to go as long as you go equipped for mozzies and have a torch and your own bread knife (and we took our own fan as well) and have a mind open to a different culture.

"Friendly hosts, great location"

Rate:  5 Stars

Thanks to looking at Trip Advisor i knew which rooms to ask for and consequently enjoyed a great stay here in appartments overlooking the garden so had a lovely view of the hills on the opposite side of the resort. The apartments were basic in the old Greek fashion but clean and spacious. The complex was also clean and well kept with lots of greenery & flora including a lemon tree that the owner let me have lemons from.

Georgious and his daughter Maria and son in law Felix are very courteous and affable and did all they could to make our stay enjoyable and fun.

Agia Palagia is a quiet resort with lots of places to eat but it`s a cove rather than a wide open beach and frequented by Heralkians at weekends so can get quite crowded but there are other beaches within walking distance or by car.

Room tip: Ask for rooms overlooking the garden for the best view

"basic accomodation, but good food and relaxing holiday"

Rate:  3 Stars

this small set of apartments are run by a delightful friendly family.
we stayed half board and maria cooked us some fabulous authentic greek evening meals.
no choice from a menu as is you would expect from hb, but each morning she would seek our approval for her choice in the evening and it was absolutely wonderful to try all her recipes.
the apartments themselves are adequate and basic, especially the plumbing, in common with the rest of greece
they are desperately in need of updating and very dark. but they where clean enough and maid service was every other day. with lots of clean towels
we went with our two teenage children and the two bed apt was not big enough for all us us as there was no separate seating area and everyone ended up sitting on our bed.
they are really just two rooms with a bathroom and a very small kitchen area in one of the bedrooms.if we where to go again as a family of four i would book two studios
air conditioning had to be paid for separately and was very expensive at 150 E for our apt for 10 days
the spotlessly clean pool was wonderful although small we often had it to ourselves,.even though we where there at peak holiday period
every evening the pool area and pool where cleaned by the apartments owner until it was sparkling
there are two beautiful beaches nearby .one in the main resort area where all the restaurants are located and a second quieter shale beach
we found the resort to be quite expensive and we where also very surprised that most shops and restaurants do not accept any type of card payment
there are a lot of half built projects in the area and it looks like crete is feeling the credit crunch like every one else.
we booked this as a fairly cheap holiday and we got value for money.and for a sun ,sea and sand holiday with good food i would go there again

"Friendly, family run hotel"

Rate:  5 Stars

This is a really fab hotel. The manager and his family who own it were exceedingly helpful and accommodating, lending a hand with tourist information and providing good conversation . Though the rooms weren`t massive, they were comfortable (as rooms can be at 35 degrees C) and came with a decent sized kitchen and clean bathroom. There is a pool, which is dredged for pesky bugs every day and a well lit bar.

The food on offer was tasty and prepared quickly. In addition the hotel is definitely in a good spot, some 5 minute walk from the beach, with a local butcher and baker nearby (as well as a mini-mart). If you are going to Ag Palag, then try and see if you can get a room at Hotel Amazonas!

"This place is absolutely great! Thoroughly recommended"

Rate:  5 Stars

We stayed here in Amazonas apparements for a week at the end of June 08 and the place really was fantastic.

The rooms are basic but clean and had absolutely everything we would need for a stay there . The appartments are located about 200 meters from the beach which was brilliant and the hotels own pool is clean and very nice.

The owners too were really friendly people and really made the effort to make us feel at home. Maria`s cooking is excellent - the Moussaka is defintately not to be missed! and Felix`s cocktails are not to bad either! Although really close to the beach the place is set far enough back that it`s quiet.

We had an absolutely fantastic time in Agia Palagia and I really would throughly recommend these appartments as somewere to stay.

Agia Palagia itself has a nice beach (but it did get busy at the weekend as the locals from Heraklion go there - mind you this is always a good sign I guess !) There;s about 20 -30 small tavernas right on the edge of the beach with decent food and watching the sun go down over the sea with a beer or two is a must!

We didn`t see anything about the amazonas appartments on the internet before we went so were determined to write a review for this when we got back to show how nice the place is!
