"Modern and good"

Rate:  4 Stars

The New Berlin is a 10 minute walk from the S-Bahn (Ringbahn) station Landsberger Allee. It offers quite a luxury atmosphere for it`s price (in my case 69 EUR incl. breakfast). The rooms are very modern and spacious. The windows can be opened (yeah). The bathroom is very big and has everything you need except a tub. The breakfast is very good with a great variety of food.

I only had one problem: you shouldn`t be allergic to dust. The room has a very fleecy carpet which looks and feels great. But after one night sleeping there I nearly died in the morning.

But despite of that it`s a great place to stay.

"Nice hotel, very friendly staff"

Rate:  4 Stars

This hotel located in Eastern Berlin, quite far from city center, but close to Alexander platz 98 euro by taxi or 5 stops by train. Nice, big, clean rooms, very-very-very friendly staff, free wi-fi and very delicious breakfast.

Room tip: Rooms 201- 202 and above was OK. Very quite.

"Great value, warm (very) and friendly service"

Rate:  5 Stars

Arriving in Berlin for a first visit to snow and temperatures below -10 C we were pleased to have chosen this hotel on the East side. Our room was generously sized, immaculately clean, and very warm, with a good-sized bathroom and comfortable bed. It was on the courtyard side with double-glazed windows so very quiet although this meant that we lacked views. The staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. Breakfast buffet offered a wide choice. We chose the hotel partly because it was convenient for the Velodrome, 10 minutes walk away, as was the nearest U-Bahn, but it was quicker to take the tram to Alexanderplatz. The area felt safe and quiet. Would recommend highly.

Room tip: If you want a quiet room ask for one across the courtyard from reception.

"Highly recommended, great staff"

Rate:  4 Stars

We spent two weeks at the New Berlin and agree with all the previous positive remarks. The staff was invariably friendly and helpful, often beyond the call of duty. Our lack of speaking German was no barrier at all. We had a comfy mini-suite on the top floor. Nice views, quiet, and a great walk-in drench shower (no tub). Plenty of large windows with heat/A/C on top of that. Two large-screen TVs, one with Blu-Ray DVD player and some movies. They handled a small meeting (18) very well, so we can highly recommend the venue for conferences, too. The restaurant has a limited menu, but the food is good. Breakfast room offers a nice buffet with both cold and warm offerings - custom eggs on request. Located near two tram stops in a residential district with plenty of alternative eateries and services. Very attentive and responsive management.

"Comfortable and convenient"

Rate:  4 Stars

Although New Berlin in Friedrichshain is not in one of the more salubrious areas of the city, it is a very safe and pleasant place to stay. I`d certainly stay there again. My room fronting Petersburger Strasse was a little noisy but this was not a major problem. The comfort of a huge bed, carpeted floor and shining bathroom more than compensated. The food in the ground floor restaurant was excellent and the buffet breakfast in an adjoining wing provided a luscious range of choices, from high quality cheeses, cold meats, tasty bread, eggs and fresh fruit. Of course there were also juices, tea and coffee. Service, whether in restaurants or at reception, was brilliant. The hotel offers bikes for hire at a modest price and as Berlin is mainly a flat city with many bike paths, it is delightful to cycle around. Public transport connections are easy too. Trams along Landesberger Allee or down Petersburger Strasse to Warschauer Platz connect with trains that quickly convey passengers to other parts of the city. New Berlin is a 20 minute walk from the Europa Park Schwimm und Sprunghalle so it`s possible to swim laps in this Olympic quality facility. Overall, a very comfortable and pleasant place to stay.

Room tip: Ask for a room away from front of the hotel (the Petersburger Strasse side). Other rooms are quieter...

"Very friendly and helpful staff"

Rate:  4 Stars

I stayed here for a week back in June 2013. I got a deal with the place via Expedia and on arrival, I was impressed with the place. It was not the fault of the hotel but Expedia had messed up and I ended up with a Mediterranean style room which was very stuffy and not the luxury I had paid extra for. I complained and the staff were most helpful and realised who was at fault and got me transferred into one of the modern rooms as soon as possible. The room was fantastic with a huge double bed, carpeted floor, flat screen TV, minibar and great en-suite bathroom. You knew at the end of the day that you had a great room to come back to as well as a good night`s sleep despite you being on a main road. The room service was great and the breakfast in the morning had so much variety. All of the staff were so helpful particularly when it came to the last day. The floods had cancelled my train to Paris and so they printed off a boarding pass for me to go by plane. I cannot thank them enough for their hospitality.

Room tip: If you are staying for a reasonable amount of time, do opt for the more modern rooms rather than the...
