"Great value and location, oddly hot"

Rate:  4 Stars

This hotel was excellent value and its location was perfect for exploring Berlin. We flew into Berlin Schoenefeld, from there you catch the fast train to the city, change at Alexander Platz to the metro and it is 3 stops to Spittelmarkt - all for under 4 euro!

It is maybe 15-20mins walk to Alexander Platz, 15 to Check point Charlie. We hired bikes from Alexander Platz a couple of times and would definitely recommend this - it is the best way to see the city - the parks at Charlottenburg palace are particularly lovely to cycle through.

The room was decent size with a nice queen sized bed. The bed itself was comfortable - the pillows a bit odd (big squares), and they have 2 single duvets on a double bed (something we`ve come across in Germany and Switzerland). The TV had a couple of English news channels - BBC and CNN I think. The shower had great pressure and temperature - toiletries provided is just soap.

The only issue we had with the room was that we found it overly warm - we turned the fan to cooling and put it on maximum fan power, and left the window open at night, but it was still quite warm - must be well insulated!

We didn`t try breakfast at the hotel as we weren`t that taken by the options on offer (there was a lot of variety - it just didn`t grab us). There are two other places around the hotel where you can get breakfast as well.

I would recommend this hotel, and if returning to Berlin would happily stay here again, specifically because of the price.

"Great hotel near Alexanderplatz"

Rate:  5 Stars

We travelled as two couples to this hotel. The reception staff were friendly and we were able to use the lockers on the ground floor to store our luggage. This cost 1 euro but it was returnable
The rooms were clean and modern and had all of the usual hotel facilities
The shower, in particular was of high quality - it certainly woke you up!
We were in room 715 which had an exceptional view if the tv tower in Alexanderplatz ( which is about a 15 minute stroll away)
Top tip - it`s 9 Euros a person for breakfast in the hotel. The 4 of us had a gorgeous breakfast with coffees for €13 at the bakery over the road! There is also a pleasant coffee shop opposite the hotel.
A great stay for exploring Berlin

"Fantastic Location and Service"

Rate:  5 Stars

My girlfriend and I stayed here on a recent trip around Europe. We arrived about 3 hours before our check-in time and were expecting to have to sit in the lobby guarding our bags however the fantastic staff offered to store our bags whilst we had a look around Spittelmarkt. The location of the hotel could not have been better. We were only a short train ride away from Alexanderplatz which appeared to be a hub in Berlin with shops and bars and only a tram ride from where multiple walking tours of Berlin left from.

Overall the staff were fantastic, they spoke excellent English and were always there to help. The breakfast is excellent value for money and the free WiFi was great.

I will most definitely stay here when I travel to Berlin next.

"Good location, but not worth the money"

Rate:  3 Stars

Best Western Spittelmarkt is a place to sleep, but definitely not somewhere to hang out. But, seeing there is so much to do in Berlin and we had such a short time it worked out we spent (aside from sleeping of course!) very little time at the hotel.

The reviews of other travelers are more or less consistent to what we experienced; the key selling point for this Best Western is location - the underground U-Bahn is just a few mins walk away.
We drove, and being Easter were lucky with the parking which turned out to be more or less free due to the public holidays. Otherwise, street parking is €1 per hour chargeable mon-sat until 22h I think. You can choose to park in the hotel carpark (which is really just parking beside the hotel, no garage) for €15 per 24 hours.

As many others have written, the WiFi was so poor to the point of being unusable. My Macbook air couldn`t connect at all, our iPhones could, but the connection was just rubbish. It irks me when hotels advertise "High speed Internet". If you (as an accommodation provider) can`t provide a stable, usable WiFi or a cabled connection then DON`T advertise you provide the service (and probably lose many customers who require connectivity!) It may seem a petty complaint, but if you counted on Internet to be able to plan the day and check on opening times etc it is very frustrating not being connected.
I pointed this out to the receptionist who was sympathetic but (as I expected) couldn`t do anything about the situation. Perhaps time to start taking on this advice, Best Western?!

The room itself was OK. Hairs stuck to the wall on the bathroom, but otherwise clean. Far too warm, and even with the thermostat set all the way to the coldest, it was still a little stifling. Shower pressure was good, although the stream would from time to time go luke-warm. I found this "phenomenon" pleasant, others might not.
Beds are comfortable although kept coming apart in the middle (long standing problem for European hotels, two single beds pushed together - have you not heard of King beds?!). The room was equipped with a safety box and a flat screen TV although we didn`t use either.

The reception staff were friendly, but not overly helpful. They answered any questions but were not proactive in the least about offering advice (e.g. city maps). This was a minor, the main thing is they were friendly. The breakfast is not normally included in the rate, costing €9 per person. Tja, the breakfast was OK. The dining area is a little chaotic, patrons dine in various "rooms" in the basement where the buffet is in another room. There is a shared corridor to access the buffet which was very congested. The buffet is not as complete as other hotels I have stayed in, but no fault with this.

One frustration we found was the elevators which are slow and quite simply over-loaded given the size of the hotel. There are two (that we saw) elevators servicing 8 floors and far too many guest rooms, so actually quite a bit of time was spent waiting for elevators.

To summarize, we didn`t feel this hotel was worth the rate we paid, especially seeing breakfast isn`t included. I regret a little as the Crowne Plazza is in an equally good location and had around the same rate. Be warned, don`t expect anything special from this hotel, but if you can get it for a good tariff, its an OK place to sleep before leaving for a day of sightseeing!

Room tip: Until they fix their useless Wifi, a lower-floor room. It makes it easier to take the stairs when yo...

"Central but quiet"

Spent 8 nights here. Rooms nice modern interior, 2 minute walk from underground which made it very easy to explore the city. Breakfast was good and rooms cleaned to a high standard daily. Free wifi in room was great.
