"Pas mal"

Rate:  3 Stars

"Old hotel with various levels of services. but great club for children and also scuba diving club"

Rate:  3 Stars

20 years ago this Hotel was a top hotel and then a Club Med. Now it`s about time to refurbish the rooms... And the beds are so bad! Might never have been changed.

The all inclusive is not very good. Some bar / restaurant not included. The ones close to the beach are not included... so most people stay in the village around the swiming pool, 100 m to the beach). All inclusive finishes at 23h, only very cheap sodas and snacks in the afternoon are so poor (no fruits... some meat sausage or tuna sandwiches that stay outside all afternoon long).

The restaurant is ok but sometimes no fish. But always lot of cheap pork! Desserts are very basic and all done with the same tasteless cream.

Besides that, the club for children is great! Nice premises and good team.

Also, very good scuba diving club in the hotel. But not easy to find has it`s next to the beach and most people all inclusive (some guests are not in all inclusive) never go there.

The scuba diving club is managed by very nice and friendly people. Very nice spots where to dive which compensate the fact that the hotel has limited type of services (no spa, no fitness club, etc...)

"We won`t be going back"

Rate:  3 Stars

My son (21) and I (61) went here at the end July beginning of August 2011because my son wanted to see the Acropolis. We didn`t want to stay in the centre of Athens for a week so I looked for the nearest good beach to Athens and Marathon came up and this complex had its own private beach so I booked it.

I contacted the hotel and asked if I needed to hire a car but was told that public transport was only 400m away at the end of the road. I wish I had gone with my instinct because you definitely need to hire a car if you stay here, the bus stop was at least 1.5km and when you have a heart condition and arthritis that`s a long walk in 38 degrees heat.

I booked bed & breakfast as I thought we could eat out at a nearby taverna in the evening or I could prepare something in the apartment but there isn`t one the nearest Greek restaurant is 1km along the beach path or for a variety 2km. When we arrived I thought we would be given an apartment with cooking facilities as we were only bed & breakfast (wrong again) no facilities, just room, bathroom & balcony. I asked how much extra it would cost to go all-inclusive and was told 50 euro per person per day, I thought 700 euro was too steep so we didn`t go for it and after sampling the food I`m glad we didn`t.

The food was nothing special, we had breakfast every morning but it was always the same, half cooked bacon, cold eggs that had been pre-cooked and put on a plate waiting for the next patron who wanted an egg. You could also have cooked meats, yoghurt, fruit etc. In the evening we tried the restaurant at a cost of 22 euro per person for a buffet which again was nothing special and not much variety. Another evening we tried the grill restaurant which was al a carte but the food was even worse. Needless to say we didn`t eat on site again, we walked the 2km to the restaurants in the village.

On out first day we arrived at lunchtime so we went to the pool bar and ordered a sandwich each, a cup of tea and a coke that was okay but cost 22 euro which I thought was pricey. The next day we went to the beach and there are two little eateries that serve snacks and drinks and we went to the second one along called the Kantina. The girl who works there speaks very good English and is lovely and friendly. The club sandwiches were very good and were half the price of the Golden Coast so we went there for lunch every day. Also, the bottled water was half the price charged by Golden Coast.

When we went we were the only English people there everyone else was French. Our room was overlooking the pool and very noisy. The pool music was playing all day and all announcements were in French so we had no idea what was going on.

Unfortunately, I got bitten my mosquitoes and sand flies very badly and had to go to the pharmacy for medication, whilst it helped with some of the bites it didn`t help all and I ended up on antibiotics. The reason I`m telling you this is because I took after sun with insect repellent in and lavender oil and citronella but the biting insects seem impervious to everything so please be aware.

The cost of a taxi from the airport is between 50 and 60 euro. Unfortunately, when we went the taxis were on strike and even though I had pre-booked the taxi company could not take us so I had to approach one of the SATA taxi drivers who told me to get the train. It was only after explaining the situation to the policemen on duty and showing them my disabled badge that we eventually got taken to the resort. I can only reiterate that in hindsight I wish I had hired a car.

This is certainly not a 4 star resort and I would not go there again BUT in saying that, if you go as a group/ family there are 3 pools, tennis, table tennis, crazy golf and the beach, so if you have someone you can enjoy the facilities with then you may have a better experience, unfortunately, my son didn`t because I couldn`t do any of these things with him.

Room tip: Make sure you ask for cooking facilities if you are self-catering or bed & breakfast.

"Great Stay"

Rate:  4 Stars

My girlfriend and I wanted to just relax at one place this year so we chose this hotel. We thought it was fantastic for what we needed. The food was fantastic with a wide variety and somthing differant everyday. There was some items that were made everyday however they made so many things to choose from that you didnt have to have the same thing everyday. The staff were friendly and helpful we needed. We booked a one day tour in Athens and had no way to get there and the people at the reception desk made sure we had a way. They arranged the taxi and gave us a wake up call at the exact time we asked. The animation team for all the events being held were fantastic. One in particular which I cant remember his name was so much fun to be around. This hotel is primarly for French guests, however there is a wide variety of people there. When we learned of the history of the hotel we could understand why this was the case. If you choose the All inclusive, remember to understand all the rules so you know what to expect. There is time limits for the all inclusive that is important to know, for example the free bar cut off is at 11 pm. Also you have limitations on which alcohol is free,so make sure you ask before you start. The beach bar is great for those sitting on the beach, its close by. Its a good idea to make sure you put your towels out on the beach before breakfast to ensure you have an umbrella for the day. The beds are hard but if your like us then your not planning on being in the room that much, so it should be no big deal. The free canoes is nice especially if your out in time to see the Sea Turtles swimming around. One last thing if you are not kid friendly then do not go here because it is a family place with alot of kids.

Room tip: Choose the Sea View and make sure its on the top 2 floors. Its worth it.

"Very good for a conference"

Rate:  3 Stars

I stayed for four days for a conference and the resort is fine. Definitely not a place I would choose for a personal vacation, but it was a more-than-adequate location for the conference I attended.

If they wanted to be a bit more awesome for conferences etc they would:
1. get wifi across the resort
2. serve a full bar at all the bars
3. kick up the quality of the food a little bit

That said, the staff were friendly, the rooms were basic but clean, the pools and beach were great and there were plenty of conference rooms etc.

"peaceful"

Rate:  4 Stars

We stayed at a 1 bedroomed apartment overlooking the small pool. It was very quiet, the previous week there were 750 Liverpool supporters there so we had a lucky escape. The apartments are looking a bit jaded but the rest of the resort is fantastic, Club Med standards. There are loads of supermarkets near by, highly recommend a car. In nearby Nea Makri, a mile or so away next to the traffic lights is a wonderful takeaway/ cafe that serve excellent food, right next to the road but you can always sit inside.
The staff are very friendly at reception and speak lots of languages.
You can get the ferry from Rafina a few miles down the road and go to Tinos (very religious) and Mykonos. Much better than going into Athens to nearby islands and the islands are much nicer aswell.
Drive up to Marathon Lake, actually a dam, and visit the cafe overlooking it, lovely.
Would go every year if I could.
