"Better than "excellent"!"

Rate:  5 Stars

I usually question hotels with such glowing reviews, but I have to say, O&B exceeded my expectations. And then some. My hubs and I ended our 3 week stint through Turkey and Greece here at the O&B for 4 nights while we explored Athens. We travel a lot, and this hotel may just rank as one the best I have ever stayed at. (With the caveat that we tend to look at budget over luxury, but O&B has both with the prepayment discount!)

Check in was smooth and friendly and we were given advice on the area, the sites, etc. We were shown our rooms and our bags were brought up a few minutes later. Then another knock, and we received a welcome tray with treats. The room was a superior double, VERY large, with the strongest wifi we`d encountered the whole trip. The bathroom was large with a huge walk-in shower (love).

BUT. . .I hadn`t realized when I made the reservation that we had to specify in the comments smoking or non. We are non-smokers and I have a bit of an allergy to smoke and our room was saturated with the smell. After one night I decided to ask the hotel if there was anywhere nearby that we could buy a candle or something to help with the bad smell. The gentleman at the front desk, who`d helped us check in the day before, reassured me that he would talk to housekeeping and ask his manager what they could do. Later in the day he told us that they had another room, same size, opening up on another floor if we would like to move. We would just have to wait until the next afternoon. We appreciated this. Later that night, after coming back from dinner, the same gentleman told us that he had great news. The hotel was able to upgrade us to a Junior Suite, nonsmoking, with a balcony and an Acropolis view, AND we could switch rooms that night. Really???? Of course! The suite was actually a bit smaller than our first room, but nothing to complain about, and the balcony (and yes, there was a great view!) was a pretty awesome and an unexpected cherry on top, given that it was more my mistake than the hotel`s in the first place.

It`s this kind of personal attention, and going above and beyond that really made our stay here so great. Breakfast was really wonderful, a nice spread with lots of variety. Everyone we encountered, from the housekeepers to the girl who worked during breakfast to the gentleman we worked with at the front desk our whole stay who negotiated our room change--everyone was friendly and made it a point to say hello and smile ask if we needed anything. AC was excellent and a relief to come back to after the heat of Athens in July. Our bed (in both rooms) was unbelievably comfortable--downright decadent even. It was hard to get out of it in the morning. I kind of wish my bed at home was so well appointed.

And the location is wonderful. It was easy to walk everywhere we wanted to go and we took the train to the airport, which was super easy to get to from the hotel. Again, this was something the staff went out of their way to help us with, recommending the train over the bus or a cab for ease and cost. Super easy to get to the hotel from the ferry too, DON`T take a cab, they are expensive. I know people say the area is bad, but I would disagree. All of Athens, from what we could tell, is covered in graffiti. Big deal. I never felt unsafe, even coming back late at night. Be smart, mind your bag, keep fancy valuables at home when you travel and be aware of your surroundings. Same as any big city you would visit.

Bottom line--book it. Stop reading reviews and book it. The chances of you being disappointed are pretty slim.

Room tip: Make sure to request smoking or non in your comments when you book!

"excellent location; modern atmosphere"

Rate:  5 Stars

We stayed at the O&B for one night before our Regent cruise (which was fabulous) left Athens (Piraeus). Very welcoming and helpful staff at the front desk. The staff seemed eager to help and offered suggestions for touring the area. I also recommend you have them arrange taxis to/from the airport/port for you as Athens taxis are not known for their honesty.

The overall decor of the hotel is modern/contemporary and was appealing to our eyes (we are in our mid 30s). Bathrooms are really nice with walk in shower and the room was as cold as you like it (which was quite welcome after strolling through athens in the summer). We had an upgraded room which was quite spacious, but the standard room our friends stayed in was on the small side. You may want to pay a little more if you`re going to be staying a while and need the space. Standard was still fine, though.
Also, big plus was the free internet and breakfast buffet.
I thought this hotel was a great find for the price. I just wish we would have had another day to spend in Athens. You can tell most of the people are happy to have the tourists in the current economic situation. Go and enjoy Athens (and this hotel)!

As others have noted, the hotel is in a great location to explore the parthenon as well as cafes which are frequented by locals at night. Btw, I recommend eating a late dinner at Filistron to watch the sunset on the parthenon. And the food is better than the views!

A big thank you to the staff of O and B for our stay and a thanks to other tripadvisor reviewers who recommended the hotel.

"Great choice!"

Great. Walking distance to restaurants, bars and the Acropolis. The front desk is very helpful. They held our bags for us for a few days without any problems. The hotel includes a wonderful breakfast and has a bar in the hotel. The rooms are comfortable, modern and clean. It had the best shower of our entire trip. I`d stay here again!

It was a bit more expensive than we wanted to pay, but with the pre-payment discount it was a great price for the value. When we first pulled up I was worried about the neighborhood, but after getting to know the area a bit I realized it wasn`t a problem at all.

We stayed here on the 25th July for one night but wished it was longer, just to stay at the hotel. We were a little worried on the taxi ride as the area isn`t very good, but once you get to the hotel, it is well worth it. The street the hotel is on is not that great but still very safe, and once you get to the end of the street, you are right nr a metro station and the pedestrian walk, with amazing views of the Acropolis. The hotel is beautiful, very modern, stylist and the rooms are amazing, with all the luxuries you want. The hotel staff were so helpful in recommending and booking a restaurant for us. The breakfast was fantastic with lots of choice. HIghly recommend if you aren`t sure where to stay. Very close to shopping areas as well.

Room tip: If you can afford the grande suite, stay here but the junior suites are lovely as well and the view...

"Positive experience"

Rate:  4 Stars

I booked through the hotel web site, which had an excellently priced offer for a 5 night stay. It included the american breakfast and the entrance ticket for 5 major historical attractions in Athens. From the airport it is easy to reach by metro. The hotel`s location is top if you want to explore Athens by walking. It lays inbetween Psirri and Plaka. The pedestrian path leading to the Ancient Agora, the New Acropolis Museum (a must!) and the Akropolis is just around two corners. Restaurants and shops in the nearer area. We sojourned in room no. 8 and even though giving on the small street. The windows are quite sound proof which is a good point to mention. The room decoration is modern and elegant. Large bathroom with walk-in shower. We appreciate that the hotel offered a list with additional items to choose from in order to adorn your stay (water kettle, coffee machine, novel book etc.). The extended continental buffet was sufficient for us and we did not try the american menu. Fresh fruits, excellent greek yogourth, good coffee and more including news paper. The restaurant bar has a wide choice of drinks and liquors at very fare prices. The most oustanding point to mention is the hotel personnel: all and without exception are truly courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. I can definitively recommend this hotel.

Room tip: The superior rooms are of good size for two persons. Windows can be opened and a/c can be stopped if...

Stayed here for one night on the way to the Islands.
Really handy for the Airport train. Super friendly and helpful staff .
One of the best positions for the Acropolis and super views from our terrace (which as handy as it was closed due to strikes).
Gazi which is buzzing with bars and restaurants is very nearby.
Great place to stay in Athens.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Location is great for all the sights. Staff spoke English well and were very friendly. We really enjoyed the welcome treat of olives and ouzo. We didn`t realized until our last day that you could get eggs made to order at breakfast (it wasn`t offered to us until our last day). Breakfast was nice and they offered it through late morning. A nice touch is the offering of DVDs and players in the rooms. And I LOVED the bath products (Kings and Queens). The only negative comments I can write about are that room was pretty small and we could here the neighbor`s door slamming shut.

"A great hotel"

Rate:  5 Stars

O&B Hotel lived up to it`s rating on Tripadvisor, and to their website.
The hotel is clean, bright and well designed, but I agree with some of the other reviewers that the best aspect of the hotel is it`s staff. They are efficient, friendly, knowledgable and helpful but without the starchiness that I found off-putting at Hotel Grande Bretagne (also in Athens).
So.....the website & marketing materials are a fair reflection of the hotel, the staff are very good and the atmosphere is more modern than the formality of a grand hotel. If that sounds good to you, then you will like O&B Hotel.

"Perfect location and staff"

Rate:  5 Stars

I booked this hotel for my wife and I to explore the sites of Athens. I could not of chosen better, the hotel has wonderful staff who will advise best use of your time and what to see and do. There are numerous tavernas nearby so a wide range of choice, plenty of local transport which is not necessary for visits to historical places as all are within easy walking distance.
The room we booked was standard but had a wall mounted tv, mini bar, free safe, queen bed, luxury shower, extras such as complimentary toothbrush/paste, razor/gel, soaps and lotions. The hotel bar was well stocked and very comfortable, after arrival the staff all seemed to know we were guests and made us very welcome, the service included daily maid service and after we went out in the evening our bed would be turned down. I would be delighted if one of these hotels existed in every city so I knew where to stay.

"This hotel is unique....Wonderful!"

Rate:  5 Stars

The truth is I have no words to describe the great hospitality, kindness ... all the staff are fantastic and always a smile all the time, from morning to night ...

Spent five nights and felt like home since we arrived, they gave us in the room with drinks and Greek appetizers for us and for our children aged 14 and 12 years, so sweet!

The room for four was fine, and as he had the view that thought, we were lucky enough to be moved to a much better and with views of the Acropolis, two terraces, one with table and chairs also with a view the Acropolis, two bathrooms, a great room! In the living room window is a beautiful and just ahead in the middle, the Acropolis in Athens ... amazing view, very nice!
The bathroom has a very complete amenities, showers and water pressure is great, everything is well maintained. The cleaning is complete and perfect, even twice a day (if we returned to the hotel at noon to rest a bit and we were leaving in the afternoon, around was again ordered whole and also with Christmas snacks!)

The breakfasts are delicious, there to choose from all the orange juice is great, delicious Greek yogurt, very nice dining room ...

Throughout my travels around the world have not seen many hotels like this, so lovingly caring customer ...

The hotel`s location is excellent, close to everything, you can go almost anywhere without transport, there are wonderful walks through the neighborhoods of Plaka and Monastiraki, always full of life and friendly people. The Acropolis and its museum are also at hand, there are plenty of things to see and do in Athens is a city that we love and which we have also been very lucky because the weather was great, lots of sunshine!

We also went to some island (Hydra). All our stay has been great and unforgettable Greek culture and cuisine is really good to find out.

I would like to return someday to this wonderful city and of course at this amazing hotel ... thank you very much to all staff, we wish you all the best, you are great!

We stayed at the O & B for one night after our cruise in the Black Sea. The staff is very nice and helpful. The suite was nice with a terrace and view to Acropolis. Unfortunately it was so hot that we only could get use of the terrace late at night. The bathroom was lovely and I love the rainfall shower. All products from glasses to linen are high quality products. The breakfast was fabulous. The surroundings is a bit "tired". If I ever return to Athens I will stay at O & B.

We just arrived back home from our 4 night stay at the O&B...and we had a wonderful time! We were nervous as the taxi approached the area because there is graffiti everywhere. We later realized it`s part of the charm of this area...nothing to be concerned about! The hotel lobby, restaurant and bar are beautiful, as well as our room. We didn`t have a view of the acropolis and we didn`t care. We were welcomed with a tray of goodies when we arrived. This was by far our favorite breakfast of the trip. We enjoyed the bar every night and had dinner there once. The dinner was amazing! Of all of the wonderful things about staying here, the best part was the staff. I`d love to single a few out but they all went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The other outstanding thing about staying here was that you are an easy walk to all of the attractions. The Ancient Agora is a 2 minute walk. I will definitely be recommending this hotel to friends who visit Athens!

"Fantasic hotel in Athens"

Rate:  5 Stars

Stayed at this hotel in September 2011 during a 5 week tour of Italy, Greece and Istanbul. We had requested a room with a view and were not disappointed. The view out of the front window was of the Acropolis and was spectacular at night. The balcony afforded a view of the side street and apartment next door but who cares when you had the million dollar view out the front window. Air conditioning in the room although sitting on the balcony with a bottle of wine was all you needed at night.

The surrounding neighbourhood has likely seen better days but we never felf unsafe in the area and within 2 blocks you were in the "tourist area". Walked to the Parliament buildings (maybe 4 to 5 blocks away), fish market and best of all there was a liqour store within 1/2 block of the hotel.

The staff was welcoming and the breakfast was great. Nice touch to have Ouzo in the morning. Recommended this hotel to friends who were departing for a Mediterranean cruise and they thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The price is a bit more expensive than other hotels but the view was worth it.

Room tip: Ask for an Acropolis view - higher the better

My mother and I enjoyed a four night stay at the Ochre and Brown in October. We found the staff to be knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous. The room was a bit on the small side, but very comfortable. The bathroom was good size, very modern, with very nice shower. Hotel restaurant served excellent food. This hotel is within walking distance of many of Athen`s attractions and is close to Metro stops. I would recommend this hotel to family and friends.

It was our first visit to Athens and I wanted to be close to the Acropolis. Other requirements included a varied breakfast, internet and a comfortable room.

We stayed in a Junior Suite which permits viewing of the Acropolis from the Suite`s patio. The shower is to die for! The breakfast buffet is very good and requests are met with a "can do" attitude. We had dinner at the hotel the first night and it was delicious and athenically Greek. The food servers double as excellent drink mixers.

The entire hotel is spotless; the individuals at the reception desk are highly knowedgeable about Athens and are very helpful with directions and reservations.
