"Nice but someone has smoked in our room before us"

Rate:  3 Stars

We booked a budget accommodation via Booking, the budget accommodation means staying at the basement level withe just a small window, however the room was super clean and very big.
The only problem was the smoke smell (cigarette) that constantly was preset in the corridor! Maybe only that level of the Hotel has that problem, which is a problem in many Athens places. Overall it is a nice and clean place, Thony and his son are very gentle and they are helping a lot. Location is very convenient but that smoke smell was annoying, without that the overall evaluation would have been different. However good price, specially go Athens where the hotel prices are high!

"Really nice modern hotel with great owner"

Rate:  5 Stars

I was surprised by how nice and modern this hotel was. I had a really great quality sleep for good value and the location was fantastic. Easy walking distance to all the main sites. The owner was very helpful and accomodating, answering every question I had (and I had many) even before I arrived and the great service continued throughout my stay. I would definetly recommend this hotel.

"Excellent Service and Great Location"

Rate:  4 Stars

Our family of four stayed for two nights in Hotel Tony. The location was fantastic, but the main recommendation has to be with the service. Tony and Vassili were wonderful hosts, offering helpful suggestions for sightseeing and places to eat, and always happy to go the extra mile (even ordering our tired family pizzas from the local pizza place for delivery to our room!). They were endlessly accommodating and friendly. The room itself was of a very good standard (if a little snug for four), in particular for the very reasonable price for central Athens. We had four beds in a newly renovated family room, with a clean, modern kitchen and bathroom, plus a balcony to escape from the kids to. Air conditioning was very welcome and essential, and cooled us down during the heat wave! We would very much recommend a stay here.

Room tip: Worth asking how big the rooms are if you`re a family; we were a bit squashed with four. But roo...

We were here for 4 nights and found Tony to be an excellent host. Although the hotel was still a work in progress we had a lovely new room, lovely furnishings and a balcony, which was great to have breakfast on, overlooking a tree lined street. In a great position, only 10 min walk to the Acropolis, handy to the Plaka and lots of very good restaurants. At first sight it looked to be a bit of a dodgy area but we found it very well lit of a night and always felt extremely safe. Tony recommended a lady to do our washing, a large bag washed and dried and folded for approx AUS 10, next day pick-up. He also recommended a fabulous sightseeing bus trip along the beautiful coastline to Sounion to see the magnificent ruins of the Temple of Poseidon. Tony has a wealth of knowledge of the area and is extremely friendly and helpful. We strongly recommend this hotel for quality, service and excellent value.

Room tip: Ask for a quiet room in the new block.

"Great value for family of 4"

Rate:  4 Stars

We stay at Tony`s June 2011 before heading to the islands. We communicated with Tony and/or his son many times via email prior to our trip. Athens had rioting back in June but he told us to ignore the global news and make are trip, we did and were glad. Our flight got into Athens very late and Tony arranged for a taxi (friend of the family). We were nervous that nobody would be waiting for us at the airport after traveling for 18 hours and family of four but sure enough a taxi driver was waiting at baggage claim with our name. We arrived late, and their hotel is in a quiet neighborhood and it was dark, we weren`t sure what to do after the driver dropped us off but there was a note on the door for us giving us directions to the room (his son was still up and actually came out to help us). The room was in the building next door, completely re done in the last year. Family of 4 (18 and 19 year old). Room had 3 beds (double and two singles). It was tight but we were only looking for a room to sleep in that was clean and close to everything. This met our expectations, room was great (for 90euro) and close walking distance to main attractions. It was nice to be in area where people actually lived, we shopped at the local markets and bakery etc. Tony and his son were great hosts, he made reservations for us at a restaurant over looking the Acropolis with outside seating (must do this). The only reason I did not rate a 5 star, our room was in the very lower level so it was dark very little light (but cool). We actually changed our booking at the end of our trip and stayed with Tony second time. This time our room was 2nd floor and we had a nice terrance to enjoy drinks on.

Room tip: second floor or higher. His main building was under construction in june, ask when you contact them...

"Terrific value in the heart of Athens"

Rate:  5 Stars

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Tony in late June and early July, at the start of the height of the tourist season. Tony himself or his son Vasilis took care of us and helped us with our every need. The new building, where we stayed, was spotless and the room large and comfortable, with a balcony overlooking a peaceful street. This is a quiet and safe neighborhood but within walking distance of all the main attractions, including the Acropolis, Agora and some of the best food we`ve ever eaten. Tony told us that there were a number of cancellations because of Greece`s financial woes, but I can tell you that Athens was peaceful, clean, and altogether lovely to visit. The room price of 85 Euros was about the best bargain in Europe!

"Very disappointing experience for us"

Rate:  2 Stars

Save yourself some money and stay at Hotel Illissos http://www.ilissos.gr/default.asp where it`s significantly cheaper (72 Euros versus the 110 Euros charged by Tony for one room for 2 adults and 2 children), equally spacious, similar location (e.g. 10 minute walk to the Acropolis) and upon check in you are greeted with a refreshing glass of juice, in your room you are welcomed with a plate of fruit and a complimentary mini bottle of wine, as well as a note to help yourself to a complimentary bottle of water from the mini bar! - SO NICE! and a massive accessible balcony.

Oh right...now to talk about Hotel Tony...

Cancellation Policy - read carefully!!!!! 14 days in advance - seriously???!! who does that?

The first thing I want to emphasize is that you book through a website like booking.com as opposed to directly with the hotel (which is what we had done) as that will give you some protection in case of the need to cancel.

The room itself:

We stayed two nights at this hotel on our way to one of the islands. The room we were provided didn`t quite match what we had been promised by email (e.g. we were promised a big balcony, however even if the door to the balcony could have been opened, the balcony itself was about a foot wide). Other than that, we were in the "new" part of the hotel which is slightly inconvenient to access as you first have to go into the main part of the "hotel" to check in, and then you have to exit the building and go around the corner and up the street, and up a flight of stairs and into the building. Definitely not what you want to be doing after a long journey and with young children.

Taxi service?:

We were offered by Tony`s son Vasili to have a driver pick us up from the airport upon our arrival which sounded like a convenient service. However, you should know that the driver isn`t necessarily a legitimate taxi or even an employee of the hotel so there is no meter and you actually end up being charged about 5 euros more than simply taking one of the many taxis waiting at the airport. This may be different if you arrive late at night/early in the morning, but in our case it was entirely unnecessary to have made these arrangements. In fact, it was not only unnecessary, but the person who picked us up was extremely annoying as he was more worried about getting a parking ticket and kept trying to rush us along even though I kept asking him to wait. Our flight was delayed, we were traveling with friends and their luggage was missing so we were helping them with that situation, and a large group of friends were waiting to see us once we got through customs, so while this guy Takis was pulling his hair out and practically yelling at us to get going, we were trying to reunite with our friends - so it was all very awkward and irritating.

Nothing much else to say other than that we had tried to cancel our booking for our return trip through Athens as we wanted to stay on the island for an extra night, I think it was 6 or 7 days before we were scheduled to arrive, and we were told that that was impossible. Tony said he had a business to run and too bad so sad basically - so much for "so friendly and helpful" as so many reviews on Trip Advisor describe him.

We were so upset and disappointed by this that we ended up booking ourselves into Hotel Ilissos and paying for two hotels for the same night in Athens just to avoid having to see him again. We won`t make that mistake again.

Signed Disappointed.

Our family of five people paid 130 euros per night for a very large and spacious, very clean and spotless, high quality, high-tech, one bedroom family suite with 4 balconies, excellent bathroom, kitchenette, and excellent airconditioning. We considered the price best value for our state-of-the-art family suite. Location was in a safe and desirable neighborhood for Athens with proximity to the acropolis, bakeries, and small neighborhood markets and cafes, as well as only a 15 minute walk to the Plaka and the museum. Service from both Tony and Vasilis was outstanding. From the moment we arrived, Vasilis and Tony were very helpful and wanted the very best for us. Tony gave us a map, and pointed out places to see and places to avoid. He made excellent suggestions. Tony also arranged taxi service to both the ferry port and airport (Our taxi driver, Tony`s friend, Nikos, was a great guy, very helpful, and gave us a reasonable price) .
We were impressed with Hotel Tony`s amazing service. Daily cleaning was excellent going beyond the call of duty - even folding our boy`s clothes and cleaning our dirty breakfast dishes. That is special service!
Most of all, we really liked Tony because he tries very hard to offer excellence - the best - for those who stay at his hotel, is very welcoming and helpful, and is a man of his word. You can count on Tony giving his best and coming through on his promise.
When I return to Athens in the future, we will stay at Hotel Tony again because our experience was so positive and is in my opinion, best vlaue.
I also look forward to seeing Tony again, and I wish him all the best as he proudly completes the excellent renovations of the apartments he has purchased.

Tony treated my friend and I to the quad room which is very spacious and well equipped. it is the perfect room for a family. The room was very clean, however the bed spreads were in need of washing (probably from kids having been in room previously). The shower is good, but there was no shower curtain so the area completely floods when you shower. The location is quiet and a few blocks from a metro station. Tony is helpful and his son carried my friend`s luggage and refused to take a tip for his help.

Tony arranged for his cousin Nikos to pick us up at the airport and that was a good price and very convenient. Taxi`s can really rip you off.
Tony recommended great eating places and very helpful tourist tips.
A great stay all round.

Great stay at Athens. The hotel is at great location—walk distance to every where. Only 5 mins walk to the Acropoli !!!! The area is very safe and beautiful, me and my husband enjoyed a lot walking around.

The hotel was just refurbished a few months ago , everything in the room is new and very clean, Me and my husband had a room on the 3rd floor with a balcony, where we could enjoyed the breakfast with the sunshine. It totally worth its price, and fantastic beyond our imagination.

Tony and his family were very hospitable, very nice, you could feel that they really love their hotel and put a lot effort in it. Asides the room, Tony introduced us the great restaurants, arranged cars for us to go to the port/airport, when we changed the date of stay because of the strike, he arranged room for us right away, thank you tony! All these made our stay in Athens great and if we ever go back, we will defenitely stay Tony’s again.

Room tip: I prefer the rooms with balcony, cause enjoy the sunshine is what you do in Grace!

"Perfect Hotel for a wonderful Athens experience!"

Rate:  5 Stars

I picked Hotel Tony for my first visit to Athens after reading the great reviews on Trip Advisor, and I wasn`t dissappointed! The Hotel itself is very well done, immaculate rooms, in a great location. Tony is a WONDERFUL host. I unfortunately arrived in Athens on a day with a public strike. With no taxis, metros or busses, I was left on my own in downtown Athens without a map. After wandering around lost for ages, when I finally called Tony, he immediately came to pick me up (rescue me!) and brought me to the Hotel and made me comfortable. He contacted my tour group for the following day for me and arranged for my pickup, gave me directions, gave me several great recommendations for wonderful places to eat (definitely check out "Strofi" if you are in the area!), and arranged a helpful/friendly taxi for me when I left...both he and his son were very helpful with suggestions and recommendations and generally taking care of everything I needed. They both went above and beyond. The hotel was tucked away off the many tourist areas, in a very authentic Greek neighborhood, which added to my trip immensely. I would definitely stay there again, and highly recommend the place to anyone traveling to Athens!

"Wonderful hotel, perfect location and value for money!"

Rate:  5 Stars

My family (2 adults, children 6 and 7 years old) stayed at Tony`s for 2 nights with a perfect stay in the midst of uncertainty in Athens at the time of strikes and transport problems. Room was wonderful for the 4 of us, plenty of room - very clean - small kitchen with fridge and coffee/tea that we used for preparing breakfast on the balcony in the morning and good nights sleep in a quiet area. Location is simply the best for young kids, metro and supermarket a few minutes walk, Acropolis only a short distance (we walked there twice, visit in the day and to see at night) and some great taverns for dinner also a few blocks away. Very reasonable price for having 4 beds and a newly renovated room too.

Best of all, Tony was there to assist in advising us on how best to get information & bookings on ferries that may ...or may not be running the next day and offer to take or collect us wherever we might get stranded in transit.

A wonderful stay, my kids loved it - as did we!

A suburb location, just a few short blocks from the Acropolis and other places of interest. A very quiet street, just off the beaten path. A number of good local restaurants a few minutes away on foot, all through a very safe local neighborhood. Shopping begins just a couple blocks away.
Would be a great place for families in that the rooms are quite large and a number can accomodate more people.
Many of the rooms have been remodeled with local marble, tile and the like that hints of much more expensive facilities.
Tony, himself, likely will greet you and you will find his suggestions on places to go well worth it. He never led us astray.
The room we utilized was near surgical room clean and was kept that way by his staff.
If you like a good facility, close to everything and at very reasonable costs, Hotel Tony is the place for you.
Have a good time!

"Perfect hotel for our trip!"

Rate:  5 Stars

We visited Athens last summer (2010) and found Hotel Tony to be the perfect spot for us! Tony answered every email almost immediately and was super helpful in booking our trip last minute. He is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet, and he was very proud to show us around his town - told us of good local eating, shopping, groceries, sites, etc. We had a room in the newer building - it was spacious (plenty of room for our very tall family of 4) and spotless with a beautiful bathroom. Our only disappointment (VERY minor) was that our room was on the lowest level with only eyebrow windows to the street, but that is because we booked very late. It actually turned out to be very quiet and nice and cool in the heat of summer. The hotel is very convenient and within walking distance to everything. We felt very fortunate to have found such a lovely room with and incredible host at a great bargain! Thank you Tony!
