"Amazing hotel in shady location"

Rate:  4 Stars

By far the nicest hotel I have stayed at within budget in Europe. The rooms are clean and huge. Shower is awesome with jacuzzi tub. We ordered the breakfast and one was enough for both of us. Staff were kind and helpful. Lounge area was great with laptops to use. Free wifi in room and the best Internet connection at a hotel so far. Pity about the location. Even though grocery store and restaurants are close by, we felt unsafe walking around and eve my husband was on edge. Not the hotels fault but something to keep in mind.

"Loved staying here"

Rate:  5 Stars

Booked this hotel to run the marathon after reading great Tripadvisor reviews and was not disappointed.

The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. He helped us find restaurants and sights to see.

The room was very clean and comfortable. The balcony and bath tub were great.

The location is within easy reach of the Metro stations but is in a rough area.

Room service was great and tasty too.

Wifi was free and a great perk.

Incredible price for a hotel in a major city like Athens. I`d definitely go back there.

"Top Choice"

Rate:  4 Stars

The Centrotel is a good hotel at a great price. It`s a new and modern hotel that is kept extremely clean. The design and layout of my room was comfortable and roomy...especially for a European hotel. The staff is very friendly and actually goes out of their way to make sure you are enjoying your stay. There is a nice continental breakfast, easily accessible and fast wi-fi, sat tv, and all the other amenities you could want in a modern hotel. With the hotel being an easy 8-10 minute walk to the Athens subway, it`s a great location to see the sites of Athens then retreat for a quiet respite at night.

More on the location...some people have commented that the hotel is in a "bad" neighborhood. This is completely incorrect. The hotel is not in a "bad" neighborhood, it is just not in a "tourist" neighborhood. Centrotel is in a part of Athens that local people actually still live in, and the people in the neighborhood are not "bad" either. At no time, including late at night, did I feel unsafe walking alone in the neighborhood.

If you`d like a clean, comfortable, modern hotel with a great location at an excellent price, but can live without the usual tourist surroundings, then the Centroel is a great pick.

"Wonderful Experience!"

Rate:  5 Stars

Athens is an easy city to navigate, so we took the train from the airport towards the hotel, got off and stopped by a little shop and the very amicable owner in perfect English gave us directions. We finally get there.
The staff was wonderful, spoke English, Spanish and Italian. Very clean hotel, we had our own little terrace. We were hungry and decided to get a bite; we sat down in a little restaurant just a few blocks and had the perfect meal.
When I travel, I like to blend in, stay in those places not considered touristy, Centrotel is located in such a place, were you have access to neighborhood bakeries and cafes.
We visited Athens during the month of October and the weather was wonderful, very pleasant unlike the middle of the summer. Not a lot of tourists at this time of year.
I would go back to Athens and stay at the same hotel.

"PERFECT hotel in a not-so-perfect neighboorhood"

Rate:  5 Stars

Thanks to the great reviews here at Tripadvisor I reserved this hotel for me and my family. I was very skeptic when we got off the train station and started walking over to the given address. But when we saw the hotel and went in we had a very pleasant surprise! Perfect conditions, VERY clean, amazing service (George was cutie, so helpful!) and fantastic room. The bathtub was much more than we could ask for, the cute balconies and the beds were great. As everybody else said, the area doens`t let you feel very comfortable to be walking around at night although nothing happened to us. Its a not-so-friendly-looking immigrant neighborhood. However, and this is important to know, talking to another group of tourists about where they were staying, most of them were staying in the historical area and said the same thing about walking around at night. So if that is the case there is NO reason for not starying here.

They spend non of your time filling out stupid forms, you just get your keys and go to your room. They are very discrete and polite. Sometimes we would leave for like 10 minutes to get something to eat and come back and they would have emptied the trashcan!! On the last day our flight was late and we didn`t feel like spending all day at the airport and with a huge smile George allowed us to stay a little longer. No hastles, no rude people...We tried the breakfast on our last day and it was great! Although there is a bakery about one block away where you can get a good pastrie or juice. Even though the street is a little noisy they have excellent double windows that keeps all the sound out of the room!

STAY HERE! You wont regret what you will get for what you pay!

"Good hotel in a strange location"

Rate:  4 Stars

The other hotels in Athens must have got very mixed reviews for this one to end up as #3.
Staff is very friendly and helpful, the rooms are very clean and modern, but the area feels uncomfortable.
I booked a suite, which was just a big room with a seating area (I think to qualify as a suite, a room should have a completely separate bedroom) but at the rate I paid I really can`t complain.
Breakfast is big and the same price whether you eat it in the lounge downstairs or in your room. They start serving it at 7:00 with no end time, which I think is fabulous.
I was surprised by how old and tiny the TVs were, but they worked.
Great showers and I enjoyed the jacuzzi.

"An relaxing oasis"

Rate:  5 Stars

The moment you step into reception from the relatively shabby area in which the hotel is situated you are transported into an oasis of relaxation. Very good value hotel. Reception staff are smartly dressed, professional and caring in this family owned hotel. We were allocated a triple room which had a small balcony at the back which was a nice place to enjoy the huge breakfast; one was enough for two. Room service quick and friendly at no extra charge. The spa bath was a lovely way to relax after a busy day sightseeing, and the hotel was spotlessly clean and modern. The hotel`s free map of Athens is very useful. To get into the centre of Athens (Acropoli, or Plaka for dinner) turn left from the hotel and take the metro from Larissa station which is 7 mins walk away. A few stops takes you to the Plaka which is a much nicer area in which to dine than the immediate vicinity of the hotel.

"Good "value" hotel"

Rate:  4 Stars

Stayed here three nights at £60 a night. Overall, a smart new property offering a basic hotel with a simple bar/cafe downstairs. Located five minutes walk from the metro, and four stops from the city centre, but in a very scruffy district - dont bother to explore the locale! Lots of ambient noise (the yard at the back has four very large air coolers for the minimarket round the corner - permanent loud hum). There is a very nice pastry shop about fifty yards away, and minimarkets nearby. No good dining within 30 minutes walk, though. Eat in the centre of town! Staff very jolly and helpful.

Room:

about 140 square feet, looking over the back. Modern and shiny with a small balcony. Lights, TV, aircon all worked well, but no kettle.

Bed:

Good size proper double, but hard as nails (the Greeks seem to like hard hotel beds).

Bath:

Excellent bathroom that would have done justice to a four star hotel. Large room and bath, ample towels.

Overall:

If you are travelling on business on a budget this is a great offering. Not one for children, I would suggest. The Metro is excellent, and nearby.

Room tip: Rooms at the back have air cooler noise 24/7. Rooms at the front have the street, but are probably...

"Superb service"

Rate:  5 Stars

While the area is dodgy, and the nearest metro was closed, we had no trouble trawling around the area on foot to find the hotel. When we arrived the staff couldn`t do enough for us. They upgraded us, and even brought up some chilled wine glasses. The rooms have spa baths and total block out (so be careful you don`t sleep in unintentionally!) and are very quiet. We stayed here each end of a small boat cruise for a week and the hotel looked after our luggage until we returned. They also sorted a taxi to the airport - although we generally happily use the metro which is very cheap.
We were so pleased with the service, room and reasonable price we have recommended six family members stay there this September en route to an island wedding.

"Excellent value for money hotel"

Rate:  5 Stars

Although most reviews say that the area is `dodgy`, ask yourself how many areas of Athens are `not dodgy`. It is a poorer area of the city but by no means intimidating. The hotel is very clean, rooms well appointed (with balcony) and all the staff, without exception, were attentive and eager to please. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

I totally love this little hotel If you ever in Athens, look no more, this is the best hotel I have stayed at an for half of the price you are treated better than most five star hotels. In here you aren`t just a room number. Love the workers!!!! Great location close to the metros and excellent customer service.
The rooms are beautiful and "SUPER" clean. I felt so good coming each night to my room. I love it!!!!!!

I wouldn`t stay anywhere else in Athens

"Great value gem in a convenient location"

Rate:  5 Stars

We chose this hotel at the last minute as we needed accomodation in a particular location. My husband went inside the hotel to ask how much the rooms were, and not only did he find out standard double rooms are only 50 euros per night, but we got upgraded to a larger room for free. The larger room usually costs 65-75 euros per night, but I would happily pay it. When we arrived we were unsure how long we were going to stay so we only booked for two nights. On the second day we decided to stay for 3 more nights, and we were happy to find out that we didn`t have to move rooms.
The room was extremely clean, comfortable, and more importantly sound proof from the outside noise. The luxury of the room is not what you would expect for a budget hotel, with a bath that doubles as a spa, bathrobes, as well as the usual toiletries.
The hotel also offers 24hour room service, and the deserts are amazing!!
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly at all times. We needed an iron at the last minute and when asking for it at reception they arranged for it to be brought to our room immediately, despite the fact that it was around 11.30pm.
Although the area itself is not great, the hotel is close to three train stations, all within walking distance.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Athens, and will definately stay there again.

The room was nice, the staff really friendly and helpful. It is listed as a 2 star hotel here, but we would say it is a 3 if not 4 star place. The only negative thing is it`s location, but if one is prepared to pay for a cab it is fine.

"Great Hotel!"

Rate:  5 Stars

We stayed here based on the reviews I read on Trip Advisor. The hotel is, indeed, clean and well appointed. Our room was on the 4th floor and next to the elevator. I was concerned about hearing the elevator, but it was never a problem. We loved the color changing LED lights on the ceiling over the bed. The jacuzzi tub in the bathroom was fantastic! I can`t thank Petros at the reception desk enough for all his help and advice, especially when our return flight from Athens to London was cancelled because of a strike and we had to stay an extra night. Also, the breakfast is a very good value and there is plenty of food. Near to the Larissa metro station there is a grocery store (CarreFour) where we bought some wine and brought it back to the room. Petros was kind to send up a cork screw as I`d forgotton to pack one in my checked luggage.
As others have noted, the neighborhood is not the best but we never felt uncomfortable at any time walking between the hotel and the metro station.

excellent reception and room service, big, quiet rooms, comfortable beds, Internet access with a printer(!!), and more. I stayed there five times as my holiday in that part of the world was based in Athens. I particularly loved the jacuzzi baths and the very cool `star impression` light display they have on the room ceilings.
Only unfortunate con is the area - lots of groups of Middle eastern, African and Greek men hang around all the time especially near Viktorias station.
But one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in for the price. Another reason to stay is to meet Effie - the receptionist with the gorgeous smile!

Rate:  5 Stars

I do not think the area is dodgy. Yes, it is not the most prosperous part of Athens but I have been to this hotel 8 times in the past three years and have never been hassled or robbed or raped or worse in all that time. I think the area is rather characteristic with lots of little run down coffee houses. Just the kind I prefer to visit instead of the fake gold plated touristy coffee shops the you find elsewhere.
As far as the hotel is concerned, mere words fail me. How do you describe something that`s perfect in all aspects.
