"Nice hotel with exellent location"

Rate:  5 Stars

We are a family of four, two kids age 7 and 10 that stayed in AVA for 3 nights in July. AVA is a very nice Hotel with an exellent location and a helpful and friendly staff. It is situated in Plaka a few houndred meters from the entrance to Acropolis and the Mueseum and the Metro station with the same name - and in walking distance to many other sights. We stayed in a executive suite wich has a separate bedroom and a balcony with view towards both Acropolis and Hadrians Arch. Very nice!

"Perfect location, nice room"

Rate:  5 Stars

Couldn`t have asked for a better location in Athens. We had a view of the Acropolis from our balcony, and it was an easy walk to all the sites. The room was spacious and everything worked. Decor was stuffy but kind of charming. Very old-school Europe. Staff was super friendly and helpful! I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room tip: We upgraded to a street-side suite, which was huge and had a balcony with Acropolis view. Definitel...

Stop looking and book this hotel, you will not be disappointed. It is an ideal location, very good service, quiet and very clean. My wife is insanely picky with accomodations and she loved this hotel. The complimentary bottle of champagne is a nice touch.

"Great, but not a deluxe, hotel"

Rate:  4 Stars

We needed a hotel in Athens, a city we`d been to before but were visiting again. Tripadvisor recommended this hotel and we were not disappointed. The location is ideal (unless you`re one of those people who have to drive everywhere). The Acropolis museum is a couple of minutes` walk away, and you`re in the the heart of the Plaka area in no time.
The hotel website gave clear directions from the airport, meaning we paid 10 euros for two people on the bus, rather than 50/60 for a taxi, and it was a 10-15 minute walk to the hotel from the bus stop, but downhill...
On arrival the staff were very welcoming. Our reservation was by internet and we were expected. We were shown to the room: large enough for us, a well thought-out bathroom and a kitchen area. Twenty minutes after our arrival, room service came with a bottle of sparkling wine to welcome us to Athens.
Breakfast was a buffet, simple but with everything necessary. On the second day one of the staff was pressing oranges for juice and we had to have some (i.e. we were not allowed to say no.) Cereals, fruit, ham, cheese, olives, bread, pastries...and some hot things we didn`t have. Don`t expect a restaurant rustling up eggs benedict or cholesterol-free omelettes, but you do get good, fresh produce.
The reception area has loads of brochures to guide you around and the staff are more than ready to help.
In short, this is ideal if you want to explore Athens; centrally located, quiet, friendly and small. We were made to feel welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

"Location, location, location!"

AVA is a "boutique" hotel in the Plaka area of Athens. It`s a short walk to anywhere. We (2 adults, 2 kids [12 & 15]) stayed here based on T.A. reviews, in one of the Executive Suites. The size was perfect for our family (husband and I had separate king bedroom and kids slept in foldout couch and cot in Living Room area) and location was very convenient. Our rate did not include the breakfast buffet, but we opted to experience the many restaurant choices nearby instead. We did pay to have chocolate in the room (to surprise the kids) and it went over fantastic with them. We also had a bottle of wine waiting for us because we "liked" them on Facebook. Both were a great touch! The staff was friendly, but did not stand out as extraordinary and their restaurant recommendations turned out to be a little disappointing. Do your own homework here. While the hotel is modern, clean, and offered great historic views from the balcony windows, it`s really the location that makes this a great place to stay.

A one night stay before boarding our cruise ship out of Piraeus couldn`t have been more perfect. The staff and room were just what we needed for a quick turnaround. The location was ideal to immerse ourselves in the best part of Athens for eating, shopping and sightseeing in a short period of time.
Been to Athens many times and highly recommend the Ava for any length of stay. The room was spacious and everything worked the way it was supposed to. A real gem.

My wife, daughter and I spent 5 nights at the AVA hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The location is excellent on a quiet street by the Plaka but yet 50 meters aside from the main flow of tourists. We were upgraded to junior suites, which were extremely comfortable and decorated with taste - the painted ceiling in the bathroom impressed us in particular!
The morning breakfast is very good, and all the staff was very pleasant, as we found is usually the case everywhere in Greece! This is where we will stay again next time we return to Athens!

Stayed twice on this trip at then end of June and then late July 2012 . Myself and husband travelled with our two children 21 years and 15 years so we booked 2 rooms, each time. The staff at AVA cannot do enough for you on arrival a welcome water while checking in and then a fun trip in their tiny elevator to our floor the staff brought up the suitcases of which we had four. We took 2 exec suites and the pure joy of standing on the balcony with Hadrians Arch one way and Acropolis in the opposite direction was like being in a movie. You can walk all around the old town and enjoy the cobbled paths excellent tavernas, and be able to access the above sites in a short stroll, the breakfast is buffet, it has all the cereals, fruits, eggs, bacon, tomato, toast pastries, yoghurt and cold meats with a expresso machine for your coffee and of course tea`s and juices. This is the only meals served at AVA but you have your kitchenette and of course within 2 mins restaurants. Would definitely return

Room tip: If you can push for AVA Exclusive Suite you will have a large balcony to enjoy sunset

"Fantastic hotel near the Acropolis"

Rate:  5 Stars

I enjoyed a wonderful stay at the AVA for 6 nights in early October. The location was ideal for someone like me who had never traveled to Athens before. The Acropolis and numerous other historical sites were within easy walking distance as was the Plaka with all its restaurants and shops. The hotel was very clean and the room was spacious. The staff was terrific. They were friendly and did a great job assisting me with anything I needed. The complimentary bottle of Champagne was a nice surprise after a long flight. Overall I couldn`t have asked for a better experience and will definitely stay again the next time I make it to Athens.

"nice, and good location"

Rate:  3 Stars

I reserved at this hotel because of its rating on Tripadvisor. I was in Athens for only two nights before a cruise, and the hotel was perfectly located for my plan to see the new Acropolis Museum and the Old Agora. I was frankly a little surprised when I got to the hotel because on Tripadvisor it looks much nicer, bigger and more sophisticated. And it looks like you can see the Acropolis from your room or the roof. Neither is true. However, my room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is OK, but it`s always uncomfortable taking a shower in those tiny little corner stalls, which is what they have. The breakfast was a good continental one, with some delicious Greek breads. I am surprised that this hotel holds the No. 1 spot at Tripadvisor. It`s a nice little hotel, and I enjoyed my stay, but it is certainly not luxurious. The staff were pleasant, but sometimes not as helpful as they could have been about directions. But the location is terrific -- a short walk to the new Acropolis Museum and to the Acropolis itself, and the Plaka. I would stay there again.

Room tip: ask for a room over the courtyard and higher up.

"AVA isn`t a just a great place. It`s the only place to stay in Athens."

Rate:  5 Stars

Before we arrived, we wondered if the #1 rating on Trip Advisor was really accurate and worried that we might be missing something. But I can honestly say this was one of the best hotels at which I have stayed--and I travel regularly for work. The room was lovely and the hotel ideally located for us, the amenities were perfect for our family, and the hospitality and professionalism of the staff made us feel right at home.

The very first moment when we arrived, our young son was given a small stuffed bear as a gift (a friend who remains a favorite companion). From that perfect beginning, the staff did everything they could to make out stay pleasant. We got to our room and found a chilled bottle of champagne and some chocolates. We ventured out for dinner as soon as we got settled and the staff at the front desk made sure we found a good local taverna where we had a great dinner. And the next morning, we were treated to a great breakfast and met the rest of the hospitality team.

Over the course of our week, the staff was like family—in a good way. When we were late for breakfast one morning, they knew and kept the restaurant open for us. And when I came down after they had given up, they prepared a tray to take back for my family. The next morning, we wanted to leave early and they opened the restaurant for us and made sure our day got off to a good start. They called cabs, helped us arrange our outings, and directed us to restaurants for dinner, and did everything they could to make sure we had nothing to worry about. They took such good care of us that my son wanted to get a picture of some of the staff and posed with them in the hotel doorway as we were loading the cab to head to the airport.

The hotel itself is extremely nice—beautiful, but not overdone. It is the kind of place that feels like home—if you live in a nice home. The suite we had was perfect for us. Two rooms with a king bed in the bedroom and a twin bed set up for my son in the living room. It was clean, neat, well-maintained, and comfortable. It was the kind of place that makes you feel at home. And when you are away from home, what more can you ask?

As for location, it is right in the Plaka. It’s a short walk to almost anything at the top of your list of things to see in Athens. A five minute walk to the Acropolis museum, ten to the Acropolis itself, less than a minute to Hadrian’s Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and twelve to Syntagma Square and the metro. And there are some wonderful restaurants, shopping, and everything else you could want in between.

My wife’s parents live in Athens and we plan to visit them in 2012. We are definitely going to book a suite and to come home to the AVA Hotel. I would not even consider looking for another hotel.

"Very disappointing given the build up/expectation"

Rate:  3 Stars

The hotel is fine - very plain. When planning my trip to Athens with my wife I took a bunch of recommendations from my Athenian friend (many in the top 10 on Tripadvisor), but opted for this hotel instead. I forfeited a swimming pool too (big big mistake in the Summer). I found the website glamorised the hotel a little too much (it is very very plain). The bathroom was absolutely terrible (shower barely worked, and was TINY). I am tempted to give this hotel 1 star due to the huge gap in expectation, but for what it is, and because of the location (only thing going for it) I will keep it at 3. Many other reviewers praise the service too, which we didn`t find all that great either - they may say good morning, and good evening, but at times are a little too casual, and the tipping point was perhaps when they asked how much we paid to rent our car, and made judging comments on the type of people we were because of the car we had rented. The restaurant they recommended to us was also very poor. Bottom line - this is a very simple hotel, and do not come here expecting a top 20 hotel in Europe - decidedly average.

"Excellent Athens Week at Ava Hotel"

Rate:  4 Stars

We traveled as a couple and stayed in Athens for one week. This hotel is in Plaka and is very close to all the sights - it is next to Akropolis among other places. It is also very clean and the staff is just the friendliest we have ever encountered out of any hotel we have stayed in.
The room looked exactly as in the pictures! We opted for their `regular` room, which was just the right size for us. We had a small kitchenette with a good size fridge. And also tv with hdmi cable outlet and extremely good speed free wi-fi in the room. We are technique freaks, so being able to use our ipad, iphone, samsung phone, laptop etc. was fabulous as well as being able to watch video clips through our usb drive through their Blue Ray Dvd Player.
Breakfast was nice with good options. We were happy that there were healthy options as well as eggs and bacon. Staff fussed around us a lot and changed out the waffles or bacon if they had been standing too long. Very good service!
The only negatives with the hotel room was that we found a dirty surprise in the toilet, which the staff apologized for and seemed very embarrassed about. We got a bowl of fruit and a bottle of sparkling wine as an apology and also because we had liked their page on Facebook. We guess things like this happen, but it is how the hotel staff deal with it that matters. It happened, we moved on... Also, the minibar prices are outrageous – 4 euro for Pringles chips. The latter can be normal depending on the hotel. The shower was weird, too small and the pressure was terrible. Water came out like one little stream...haha.
Hotel is lovely though. Nice and cozy. Complimentary coffee and tea was provided as well as robes and slippers. But the friendlieness of the staff was the best. For more on our Athens Trip and the hotel, check out our blog: http://topsgeht.blogspot.com/2011/12/athens-adventure-day-one.html

Room tip: If you are out a lot, it is fine with their regular room. Why pay more?

"Perfect for families!"

Rate:  5 Stars

I stayed at this well-located small hotel in July 2012. It was a very good experience. My daughter, her husband and 2 children were with me. We had 2 rooms, across from each other on the 2nd floor. The balcony of room 203 overlooks the Acropolis and the room is excellent. It has a living room with sofa bed to which they also added a cot for us, and a large bedroom with a king size bed. The air conditioning was very good and the buffet breakfast was wonderful. They even had a basket of fresh oranges and a juice squeezer available! The people working in this hotel are lovely, very welcoming and helpful. They arranged for a van to pick us up at the airport to transport the 5 of us, with luggage, to the hotel. Everything about our stay worked perfectly and was enjoyable!

Room tip: Room 203 has a great view from the balcony!
